Mischa Barton Detained In Psychiatric Ward
Mischa Barton has been placed under ‘involuntary psychiatric hold’ in a LA hospital, source close to the situation told Access Hollywood. Mischa was held under Section 5150 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code – the same code which hospitalised Britney Spears twice in 2008. The section stipulates authorities can hold a person against their will for up to 72 hours if they present a danger to themselves or others, are gravely disabled or suffer from a mental disorder.
Mischa was forced to miss the New York premiere of her new film The Homecoming after she was hospitalised at the Cedars Sinai hospital in Los Angeles on Wednesday afternoon. LAPD officers arrived at her West Hollywood apartment after responding to a non-emergency call to assist with a ‘medical issue’. LAPD spokesperson April Harding told Us Weekly magazine on Thursday: ‘"We responded to her home last night on a medical issue. We assisted with it. She was removed from her home.’ When asked if Mischa was co-operative, the office answered: ‘I guess.’
A statement from her representative confirmed Mischa was receiving hospital care, but declined to give further details.
Craig Schneider said: ‘Police were involved due to Ms. Barton’s celebrity status; to ensure her safe transfer to medical treatment for which she remains hospitalised as per the recommendation of her doctor.
Another example of a young hollywood star who got a taste of fame and money and spiraled out of control. What is the point of all the trappings that come with being a star if you fall into a depression?
