French Vogue’s Blackface Shoot Appropriate Or Not?

Lara Stone "Blackfaced" by Vogue in its October edition.

Lara Stone

French Vogue no stranger to controversy have people up in their arms at the pictures of dutch model Lara Stone in which her light skin is painted black.  The magazine’s editor  Carine Roitfeld and photographer Steven Klein made the decision to alter the model’s skin colour.  Many are accusing them of cultural insensitivity. Perhaps the intention of the shoot was not to be racist but at the very least it is tactless.   What do you think appropriate or not?

I think fashion is art and art should have no boundaries – the pics are beautiful and what the show is that beauty remains – it is invariant -regardless of skin color and immune to changes in skin color. In fact the shoot is ANTI-Racist it shows that race is NOT important. In no way does it ridicule black people. So, as usual, my comment is – GROW A BRAIN!
