Amber Le Bon Steals Mark Fast’s London Fashion Show

Mark Fast has become a byword for sexy, cobwebby knits since he sent plus-size models down the catwalk at his London Fashion Week show last year.  The decision sparked a media storm after his stylist stormed out in protest, but since then, his dresses have become a favourite with the fashion pack – he’s launched the Faster by Mark Fast diffusion line, a cut-price collection for Topshop and his creations have been worn by Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester.

This year he’s added celebrity models like Amber Le Bon, the 21-year-old model daughter of Yasmin and Simon.

Le Bon was the star of Fast’s London fashion Week show, which was mostly modelled by traditionally skinny girls. Only one, in bright turquoise above, looked slightly ‘plus-size.’ The Canadian designer, who trained at London’s prestigious Central Saint Martins college, did not steer far from the body-conscious style that has become his signature, but there were new variations on texture, with barely-there knits and glossy patent panels.

Fringing was a strong theme throughout -models looked like birds of paradise in short multicoloured skirts, while a long flowing fringed gown that was his grand finale had a unique movement and energy – truly the star of the show.  This model below would not have made it on Àmerica’s Next Top Model since Tara made it clear last week that any hint of unhealthy leanness will not be tolerated when she eliminated the lovely but extremely skinny Anamaria.  In fact it was peculiar how Anamaria did not seem terribly upset but her elimination – at least not in front of the cameras.  She seemed confident that she would get plenty of work and success n her own – even without the imprimatur of Tara and the TV show.
