Actress Michelle Yeoh Deported While Filming

Former James Bond actress Michelle Yeoh is starring in a new film, The Lady, about pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi.  Unfortunately because of her connection to the film and Suu Kyi, she’s been banned from Burma.

Michelle, who shot to fame with Pierce Brosnan in 1997’s Tomorrow Never Dies, as well as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, was trying to visit Burma for the second time, but was ultimately blacklisted before she could even leave the airport.  She is believed to have angered the regime, and was sent back to Thailand.

What’s the problemo?  Well, although everyone is keeping quiet, the military backed country shuns out journalists and other critics of their strict government.

The movie details the life of Suu Kyi, who was unfairly imprisoned for 20 years by the same military leaders.  All I can say is that by trying to avoid controversy and avoid problems, they aren’t doing that great of a job.
