Angelina Jolie ought to read her history more carefully before she commits to film projects. Jolie is supposedly going to play the titular role in ‘Gertrude Bell,’ who was supposedly a ‘strong woman.’ The film is a biopic of a pioneering female figure representing British interests in the Middle East in the early 20th Century. The project is being developed by Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions with Ridely possibly planning on directing the film.
While it’s true that Bell was a true player in British foreign affairs in the Middle East at a time when it was ‘a man’s world,’ what Angelina might not be aware of was that Bell was honorary secretary of the British Women’s Anti-Suffrage League.
Bell led an organization that wanted to make sure that women would not be allowed to vote in national elections and therefore have no say in the governance of their country. What a Nasty Bitch!
Bell claimed that because the female domain was limited to the kitchen and the bedroom they had no right or ability to take part in deciding on how a nation should be ruled. Did the male domain of the tavern and cricket field make them better at deciding on national issues?
We are surprised that Angelina Jolie would take such a role. Perhaps when she learns more about Gertrud Bell she’ll wise up and pull out.
