Denver Broncos' Laurence Maroney Drugged Up and Packing a Gun When Arrested

Denver Broncos’ running back Laurence Maroney, 25, was arrested in St. Louis last night.    At the time of the arrest Maroney was said to be under the influence of drugs and also carry a firearm.   According to law enforcement they stopped the car Maroney was traveling in with four other occupants because they claim they saw them smoking what they thought was marijuana.

TMZ has more:

Five of the six people in the car were arrested and three firearms were discovered during the bust … including two handguns and a rifle.  It’s unclear which gun cops have associated with Maroney.

Maroney’s rep had released a statement saying, “Mr. Maroney was unlawfully arrested for possession of weapons. He holds a permit to carry a concealed weapon and he had his permit on his person when he was arrested.”

The rep added, “He was not arrested for any drugs nor was he involved in a high speed chase. He was released without being charged with any offense and we do not anticipate he will be charged with any criminal offense.”

First question that comes to mind here – is why would Maroney need to carry a concealed weapon?  Given that he’s famous I am guessing  he feels he has the right to carry a gun to protect himself (from his fans?) and drive around with people smoking weed and should not be held accountable.
