Jaycee Dugard Gives Details On Childbirth In Captivity

Jaycee Dugard was the victim of kidnapping by Phillip and Nancy Garrido at the tender age of eleven years old. She was held in captivity, sexually abused and forced to give birth to two daughters without the aid of medical care.

Now, she is opening up to Diane Sawyer in a new interview on Primetime this Sunday where she discusses the ordeal. She has written a book detailing the 18-year kidnapping, titled, A Stolen Life.

She told Diane Sawyer details about how she went into labor, during her captivity. She said, “I didn’t know I was in labor. I was still…locked [in] at the time. Just scared.”

She went on to reveal in the book, that sex wasn’t something she understood before being kidnapped. She said that giving birth was a painful experience, made worse by the fact that she wouldn’t be receiving any medical care.

She spoke of how her first daughter arriving, saying, “She was beautiful. I felt like I wasn’t alone anymore. I had somebody else who was mine. I wasn’t alone.”

Jaycee gave birth to her second daughter in 1997 and even educated both of her daughters in captivity. She added, “There’s a switch that I had to shut off. You can’t imagine being kidnapped and raped, you know? You do what you have to do to survive.”

Such a sad story. I hope she’s able to overcome what she’s been through. What a tough road she’s been down. At least there was some justice for her and her family after all this time.
