Lady Gaga is Under Fire For Her 'Mermaid in a Wheelchair' Act

Lady Gaga is currently being criticized for a recent performance she did, which involved her rolling onto stage in a wheelchair while dressed as a black-finned mermaid wearing shades — her new alter ego she’s named “Yuyi.”

She’s got a lot of people angry, including old time diva Bette Midler, who claims she came up with the “mermaid in a wheelchair” act nearly 30 years ago. The disabled communities, mostly advocacy groups, are also hatin’ on Gaga for her recent performance.

In fact, Gaga’s act was despised so much that she and her entourage were egged as they exited a night club in Sydney, Australia. Sources report that the singer took the pelting well and even maintained a smile on her face. Though I’m sure she was doing everything but smiling on the inside.

Roman Reed, a well known lobbyist for research on spinal cord injuries, tweeted: “Dear @ladygaga how about using your celebrity status 2 try 2 get us out of wheelchairs. Instead of cruising in one. Cool?!”

Heat has also been fired by the advocacy group Life Rolls On.

But perhaps the most furious of all? Yeah, Bette Middler. She’s freakin’ M. A. D. She started a Twitter war (which appears to be pretty one sided at the moment) and hurled some poison-laced comments in Gaga’s direction.

“I’m not sure @ladygaga knows that I’ve performed my mermaid in a wheelchair for millions of people – and many of them are still alive.”

“Dear @ladygaga if you think a mermaid in a wheelchair seems familiar-it’s because it is! You can see it on youtube 24/7-with ME performing it.”

OH, SNAP!

What do you all think . . . do you think Gaga deserves these attacks? Or are people just looking for yet ANOTHER reason to hate on her?
