Marilyn Monroe Remains The Top Screen Goddess

Almost 50 years after her death, Marilyn Monroe is still the top choice amongst movie fans –  her star quality shines brightly enough for her to top a recent poll of screen goddesses.

The star of such Fifties classics as Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, The Seven Year Itch and Some Like it Hot has been voted top Hollywood bombshell of all time.

Marilyn, who died in 1962 aged 36, beat a wide array of current stars, with Angelina Jolie in second place, Scarlett Johansson in third, Welsh beauty Catherine Zeta Jones in fourth, and Salma Hayek in fifth spot.  More than 80,000 fans, mostly male, also ranked Marilyn ahead of such big-screen greats as British-born Elizabeth Taylor in the poll conducted by the US film industry cable network Reelz.

One fan summed up her appeal by saying: “Her untimely death served to add to her mystique. She still personifies the perfection of beauty and, boy, she could act too.”
