Rise of the Planet of the Apes Starring James Franco Set For Release

‘Planet of the Apes’ was a classic 1968 film starring Charlton Heston that chronicles a world in which humans have fallen from grace and are subjugated by imperious apes.

Based on the french novel by Pierre Boulle the movie has already been made over once in 2001 by Tim Burton.   Pierre Boulle also wrote ‘Bridge on the River Kwai’ which was made into one of the all-time great movies and was directed by the British genius David Lean (Lawrence of Arabia).

Now we are in for the dubious treat of another go at the old theme but with new technology and science.  Positioning itself as a prequel to ‘Planet of the Apes’ the story takes place in the present day and centers on genetic engineering that leads to ultra-intelligent apes and a subsequent war for supremacy between them and us.

The film stars James Franco and Freida Pinto and is directed by Rupert Wyatt.  ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes is slated to be released on August 5th, 2011.
