Tiger Woods announced Wednesday that he and his caddie of 12 years, Steve Williams, will no longer be working together. Elite professional golfers do not generally part company with their caddies unless they are retiring from the game.
Since Woods’ home life exploded with the sudden revelation of his profligate infidelity his golf has suffered hugely. Since the very public split and subsequent divorce form his wife, Elin Nordegrin, Tiger’s golf has just not been what it once was and rumors abound that he is done with the game.
Tiger had the following to say about his caddie:
“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Stevie for all his help, but I think it’s time for a change,” Woods announced on his website. “Stevie is an outstanding caddie and a friend and has been instrumental in many of my accomplishments. I wish him great success in the future.”
As the man who caddied Tiger through his most successful years Steve Williams will not be lacking offers now. As for Tiger it really likes he is done. Of course it just barely possible that Tiger has decided that it is Steve who is responsible for the deterioration in his play.
