Tom Cruise Has The Number One Christmas Movie

Tom Cruise Has The Number One Christmas Movie

The holidays are extra sweet for Tom Cruise this year. He has the number one movie in the world with Mission:Impossible – Ghost Protocol. The blockbuster is also tipped to reign at the US Box Office over Christmas. That’s despite some fierce competition from a few Hollywood heavyweights.

Number crunchers reckon the fourth MI film will take over $30 million this long weekend. An impressive figure given we’ve now been following the adventures of Ethan Hunt on the big screen for 15 years. It’s already made $120 million in it’s first week of release across the globe.

So what is Tom and his action extravaganza up against this weekend? First up there’s a double dose of  Steven Spielberg. He has two films this holiday season – War Horse and The Adventures of  Tintin . Reviews have been mixed for the World War 1 drama but critics have given Tintin the thumbs up. The animated tale based on the popular books is seen as Ghost Protocol‘s main competition.

Then there’s the Daniel Craig remake of  The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. Early reservations have given way to glowing reviews. Rooney Mara plays Lisbeth Salander in the adaptation.

Matt Damon and Scarlett Johansson provide another dose of eye candy. They star in We Bought A Zoo. It’s tipped to finish in the top five this weekend.

And finally, don’t forget the Sherlock Holmes sequel A Game of Shadows starring Robert Downey Jnr and Jude Law.  It’s expected to pull big crowds on the back of it’s number one opening last weekend. But not big enough to topple the mighty Tom Cruise.
