Celine Dion Buys Schwartz's, A Famous Jewish Deli

Celine Dion and her husband, Rene Angelil, are now the proud owners of Montreal‘s best known restaurant, the famous Schwartz’s Montreal Hebrew Delicatessen.  Founded in 1928 in what was then a primarily Jewish neighborhood, Schwartz’s has become an icon not only in Montreal but throughout North America.  Schwartz’s specialty is ‘smoked meat’ which is made by a secret method that is unequalled anywhere else on this planet.

The shop has become a landmark for locals and tourists alike and as well as its amazing sandwiches, it is also famed for its timeless décor which hasn’t changed in many decades.

Rene said:  “I have so many great memories of being there with the guys, and with Celine and our families throughout the years. It’s the most unique restaurant in the world and we’re thrilled to be a part of it.”

Celine and Rene hope to maintain the authenticity of the restaurant and only make necessary improvements – which hopefully, will be NONE!  I have been going to Schwartz’s for over 40 years and my family spanning 5 generations has eaten there for over 80 years!

Celine – who has sold millions of albums worldwide – recently said she felt fortunate to be in such a position to be able to make purchases like this.

She said: “My fans bought me my house. They bought my records … I’m very fortunate, and people have bought my albums year after year, and they come to see the shows, and it’s expensive, and they still come.”

We are glad that Celine and Rene have bought the establishment since they respect it and can make sure that Schwartz’s unique position as the best smoked meat restaurant in the world is maintained.
