Get ready for Princess Diana the movie. We’re not talking a telemovie or mini series. This time the Queen of Hearts is getting the Hollywood treatment and with that comes a big name playing the lead role. Oscar winner Charlize Theron has been shortlisted to play Prince William and Prince Harry‘s much loved Mom.
This won’t be a fairytale about how a teenage girl meets a Prince and marries into the Royal Family. We all know that story. This will be a warts and all look at what Diana had to put up with in the years leading up to her divorce from Prince Charles in 1996. It’s based on a controversial book written by the Princess’s former bodyguard Ken Wharfe in 2007.
The producer is promising the ‘real Diana‘. The inappropriate lovers, the boyfriends, the married men, the nuisance calls, the breakdowns and how the Princess threatened to bring the Royal Family down with her unpredictable behaviour. It won’t cover her relationship with Dodi Fayed and that car crash that claimed their lives in Paris in 1997.
The team behind the film are enjoying big success at the moment with The Iron Lady. They’ve seen how an A lister can portray a British icon and make a movie a worldwide success. So they’re very keen to get Charlize on board. She’s about the same age now as Diana was in the mid 1990s. Ewan McGregor is first choice for the role of Di’s bodyguard who plays a pivotal role in the story.
Princess Diana movies are all the rage in 2012. Scarlett Johansson has been linked to another production. While Jessica Chastain is set to star in a film focusing on the Princess of Wales’s relationship with heart surgeon Hasnat Khan.
