There are a lot of things Hunger Games related that us fans are anxiously awaiting – specifically the hair, make up and wardrobe. Cherry Petenbrink is the lead hair color designer and was responsible for all the leads and over 500 extras in the film.
The Joico colorist recently sat down with Instyle.com for an interview to talk about how she created all the outrageous and fabulous looks. She said that in order to get Josh Hutcherson’s sandy blonde hair, she had to color it in two separate visits, and was very conscious about not alerting the paparazzi and give anything away. His hair was retouched every 8 weeks using a Joico Crème Lightener in order to maintain his ash blonde locks.
Cherry muted Jennifer Lawrence’s natural blonde hair in order to created Katniss’ envious brunette locks that would in turn “defy any trace of warmth”. Cherry said that Jennifer actually liked the color and is still wearing it despite being finished with filming.
As for all the over-the-top eccentric characters in the Capitol, Cherry based their looks on sophistication, couture, and edge. She collaborated with Costume Designer Judianna Makovky and Linda Flowers, creating bright, trendsetting costumes and wigs that visually stood out.
A huge task to accomplish if you ask me, but I sure can’t wait to see it all!
