Elizabeth Smart, 24, married her boyfriend of one year Matthew Gilmour, 22, today in a private ceremony. Elizabeth who survived the nightmare of being abducted from her Salt Lake City home when she was 14 years old is moving on with her life.
If you can recall, 24-year-old Elizabeth was abducted on June 5th, 2002 from her Salt Lake City, Utah home and was found 9 months later in the home of Brian David Mitchell and Wanda Ileen Barzee. Mitchell is serving a life sentence for Smart’s abduction while Barzee was sentenced to 15 years.
Elizabeth’s spokesperson had this to say about the wedding, “To be in one of her favorite places with her family has made for a dream wedding. It’s been an absolutely beautiful day. She is positively radiant. And Matthew couldn’t be happier.”
Elizabeth and Matthew met in Paris when they were both doing Mormon mission work. They originally planned to marry this summer but because of all the media attention they opted instead for a quiet private wedding with her family. Following the wedding the couple headed off to their Honeymoon at a non-disclosed location.
