Everyone has known for a while now that Lindsay Lohan, one of my favorite hot messes, will be playing Elizabeth Taylor in the upcoming biopic Liz & Dick . . . but what we haven’t known about was who will be playing the role of Richard “Dick” Burton. Turns out the lucky man to star alongside LiLo will be True Blood’s very own werewolf Grant Bowler!
Now, a lot of people are excited about this, so we will be interested to see how this pairing turns out. Will there be enough onscreen chemistry to effectively capture the fiery, tumultuous romance that real-life Elizabeth Taylor had with Richard Burton, Liz’s fourth — and apparently fifth — husband?
Just glancing at the photos of both Lindsay and Grant, people are bound to notice the age difference — 18 years to be exact! It will come to no surprise that the film, which is set to debut on Lifetime, will be filled with steamy romantic scenes. In fact, the film’s producer, Larry Thompson, said that there will be as much sex and romance and shield-the-child’s-eyes action as the network will allow.
“We had seen him [Bowler] on tape and liked him but wanted to confirm the chemistry between the two. But this morning we had Lindsay and Grant come into a room at Lifetime and the chemistry exploded,” Thompson told E! News. “It was just Fourth of July firecrackers going off in the room. We knew from the chemistry that Liz and Dick live again.”
When discussing LiLo and Grant’s practice reading, he says — in a comment that I find to be incredibly awkward — that Grant “brings enormous testosterone and sensitivity” to the project. Interesting . . . but I guess if that’s what the project requires, then they’ve found their guy!
I can’t wait to watch this film; it’ll be exciting to see Hollywood’s most cracked-out favorite ginger back in the game! Shooting begins in ten days so, unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait a while for this Liz Taylor exclusive.
