Fashion designer Judianna Makovsky brings Panem — the world that holds an annual competition known as The Hunger Games — to life with her unforgettable costumes. While there is already so much to be admired about this film, perhaps the one element that has everybody and their gossiping mother chatting about is the film’s fantastic wardrobe.
Makovsky is no stranger to the realms of Hollywood, having designed costumes for some of the world’s most popular films, including the Harry Potter movies and Seabiscuit, both of which earned her Oscar nominations. So,with thirty years of experience and what seems to be a never-ending supply of creative juices, she’s sort of a big deal . . . and Director Gary Ross is extremely lucky to have her designing the costumes for his much-anticipated film.
Fans have already gotten a glimpse of the many styles of Katniss and Peeta, including their futuristic training uniforms, as well as the sparkling/glittering costumes of the mesmerizing Effie Trinket.
Now, there are several scenes that the movie, simply put, MUST PULL OFF to keep fans from torching the theaters; however, the most important one has got to be — in my opinion — the moment where Katniss dons her “fire dress” and shows the world of Panem that she’s “The Girl On Fire,” that she’s a girl to remember.
In a recently released image by Entertainment Weekly, Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) is pictured alongside Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) in their flaming hot (pun very much intended) parade outfits. Cinna (Lenny Kravitz), the government-ordered costume designer in the story, is seen in the corner holding a flame . . . just waiting to light them on fire.
I imagine the studio is holding stills for that spectacular scene under lock and key. While everyday we praise the actors for their awesomeness, much credit should also be given to those who work behind the scenes to make sure the movie sets and the actors sparkle and glow and shine.
