On last week show Wade struggled with feeling he was a placeholder in Zoe’s life, so he decided that they should go on a date. Despite Zoe’s apprehensions, she decided to bid on Wade’s basket at the upcoming charity picnic auction, but was surprised that she was not the only one interested. Lemon mistakenly wins Lavon’s basket and decided to keep her true feelings for him to herself and instead offered some advice about his relationship with Ruby. Meanwhile, George was interested in dating Tansy and created a basket that he hopes she will bid on.

Live Recap Begins Here:

Last week we saw the disastrous demise of Zoe and Wade’s first date – you could even call it a non-starter. There were also sparks flying between Tancy and George. Lavon and Ruby finally said the L word and even Lemon and her Dad both ended up with nice dates. Seem Dr. Z was the only one with no love…

I’m excited to see what happens tonight. I hope Z comes to her senses and finds a way to give Wade a little more of herself. He’s got sexy boyish charm all wrapped up in a hot muscular package that you’ve got to appreciate. Here we go!

It’s Christmas in Bluebell and the town square is all done up. There’s carolers, a big tree and a petting zoo. Zoe seems depressed and Lavon asked her if it’s because Wade broke up with her. She whispers angrily that Wade didn’t break up with her.

Lavon says it must be tough to be alone at Christmas and she reveals that she won’t be – her Mom is coming and Z’s not happy about her impending arrival. She asks Lavon for help and he tells her it’s a no go. He’s only got one week left with Ruby and he’s got all kinds of holiday stuff to judge.

Zoe’s got a solution for both of them – her judgy mom can fill in for him – she likes to criticize and she’ll be rid of Mom and he’ll be free to be with Ruby. Lavon’s thrilled.

Brick and Lemon discuss Christmas plans. Magnolia’s gone off to a school trip in Orland. She’s had two dates with Walt and thinks it’s too soon to ask him for the holidays.

Zoe sees Wade sending off a girl and he asks if she’s pining for him. She gets mad and he gets sassy. Lavon comes to tell her that he’s cleared it for her Mom to judge all things Christmas in Bluebell. Then Candice is there and starts picking at Zoe’s furnishings.

Candice asks if they can have lunch and Zoe says she’s too busy. She tells her mom about the contest judging and her mom declines – saying she only wants to spend time with Zoe. Both Zoe and Lavon are disappointed.

George is standing in as Joseph at the live manger scene. Tancy turns up and heckles him and he breaks character to come give him a smooch. His shift is over and he hands over his robe to the next Joseph – Brick.

Tancy and George make plans to go to the tree lighting and she tells him she’s got him a great present – he says it’s not as good as the one he got her. Brick finds a ring box in the pocket of the Joseph robe and Brick thinks George might be proposing to Tancy. Brick is not happy.

George and Tancy run into Zoe and her mom and her mom asks if that’s the same George that she thinks she’s in love with. Then she wants to know if Zoe is dating anyone and her daughter tells one sad fib after another. Then Candice sees Wade and calls him over – she tells Zoe that she likes him – that he’s fun.

He’s wearing a t-shirt Candice sent to Z as an ironic joke. Wade says Zoe gave it to him when he was painting her house – says it was part of their “business” arrangement. Zoe looks uncomfortable, Wade looks pissed off and then stalks off.

Zoe brings her mom into the office and tells her she should go shopping because she’ll probably have a crazy day since Brick is off. But it’s just one old man with a bunion.

Ruby and Lemon get bitchy at the Christmas cookie contest. They swap catty remarks and then Lemon is announced the winner! Ruby wants to know why he’s even friends with Lemon and he explains it away as Lemon helping him win re-election.

Wanda comes giggling up to Tancy and tells her that George is set to propose to her – she’s shocked.

Zoe’s bunion patient is upset because he has to work Christmas – that he always has to work on Christmas – and wants to see his grandkids. Zoe agrees to write him a prescription for mandatory time off work and he’s thrilled – calls it a Christmas miracle.

Tancy comes to see George – tells him things are going too fast and that they need to take a break. He’s upset and says it’s two days before Christmas. She runs out.

Lavon asks Lemon to be nicer to Ruby. Lemon tells him she’s meaner than a bag of cats and doesn’t know what he sees in her. He asks her to try and Lemon agrees. Lavon is checking his pockets frantically. Uh-oh. Was it his ring?

Brick confronts George and asks him why he found an engagement ring in the Joseph robes. George says it’s not his. He shows up at Lavon’s to find him wrecking his house searching for something. He tosses him the ring box and Lavon’s relieved.

Candice complains that Zoe has spent too long with her patients. Zoe tells her they need to go to the tree lighting, but then a sign goes up saying it’s cancelled. She wants to know why it’s off and Tom tells her angrily that some doctor wrote Kris Kringle a note to get out of work. Uh-oh. Santa had the bunion and Z’s in trouble with the good people of Bluebell yet again.

The kids are all upset that Santa may not be coming and Zoe promises to fix it.

Lavon is furious that Zoe let Santa leave town. She says she couldn’t find a fill in or even a Santa suit. He tells her that she’s ruined his Christmas because he was going to propose at the tree lighting. Zoe’s shocked that he was going to propose without talking to her. He’s outraged. Zoe asks Candice to find a Santa suit.

Ruby and Lemon have a sit-down and Lemon apologizes for her behavior. She invites her to a gift wrapping party. Ruby says she doesn’t want to dress up like an elf and Lemon says Lavon would like her to try and fit in.

Zoe is hassling the town seamstress about conjuring up a Santa suit. Candice says she found a Santa suit but can’t get it there in time. Zoe founds out Crazy Earl used to be Santa – Wade’s dad – and tells her mom she hopes she likes armadillos and they head out to Earl’s.

George tells Tancy he wasn’t going to propose and they smooth things over. But when George admits he lied to Tancy about already having her Christmas gift, she gets mad and walks out. Shelby overhears his dilemma and begs to help him shop and he concedes. (If you’ve forgotten Shelby, she was the nutcase that George dated for about 5 minutes and then slapped when he dumped her.)

Meanwhile at the Breeland’s, Lemon tells Brick she’s got to spend the afternoon with the awful Ruby and Brick tells her she ought to get used to her since she’s going to be their new first lady. He tells her the gossip around town is that Lavon’s set to propose. Lemon looks much less than thrilled.

Crazy Earl says he won’t give them the suit, but he’ll file in. Candice isn’t happy and thinks Earl is drunk. Zoe says no. Then Zoe’s not happy when he tells Candice one day they may be in-laws. Zoe agrees that he must be drunk. Candice looks perplexed.

The kids are chanting for Santa and Zoe is shoving coffee down Earl trying to sober him up. Candice asks who Earl’s son is and he says the doctor’s boyfriend – Wade. Candice is surprised. Wade comes in and wants to know why the hell his Dad is there. He tells her his Dad is not up for it – he says last time his Dad was drunk, knocked over the tree and traumatized all the kids, himself included. He tells her she needs to act like a doctor.

Shelby helped George pick out a necklace with Tancy’s dog’s name on it and he’s pleased. Shelby wants him to present it elaborately and he declines – saying that’s not his style. He looks like he’s ready to be shut of Shelby.

Ruby and Lemon are getting bitchy again, this time in elf costumes. Lemon is tipsy on eggnog. Ruby’s bragging that Lavon has always loved her and never got over her – never loved anyone else. Lemon blurts out that he’s loved someone else. Ruby suddenly gets it and she’s not happy.

Lemon runs down the street past Candice and Zoe as someone calls her name. Candice realizes Zoe lied to her about George and Lemon being together and about who she was dating. Candice busts out Z for fibbing and stalks away.

Lavon wants to know if it’s all good and Zoe says yes. But then she realizes that while she and her Mom were arguing, Crazy Earl disappeared. Whoops! Christmas is back off again!

The tree is lit and Zoe’s all dressed up in a helper costume. She tells the kids that Santa’s in a holding pattern and will be there soon. The kids boo her. Zoe calls Wade for help.  He tells her she doesn’t know what she’s done that he can’t do it. He agrees to help to salvage Lavon’s proposal plans. He tells her to meet him at the church.

Wade encourages his Dad to be Santa again – he reminds him he was great at it – except for that last year. Wade says everyone understands why that last year was a disaster since his wife (Wade’s mom) had just died of cancer.

Wade tells him he understands and forgives him. He tells him he believes his Dad can be a normal person for two hours. Zoe overhears and has a glimpse into what makes Wade tick. She tells him she never knew any of that about his family. He tells her she never asked. She says she would have wanted to know and Wade says it’s too late for that now. Poor Wade. Zoe’s broken the town’s bad boy…

Lavon’s ready to propose when Ruby walks up and she shuts him down to confront him about having a thing with Lemon. He says it was a long time ago and that he loves her. The carolers start singing – part of the proposal plans. She tells him she can’t trust him because he wasn’t honest about loving Lemon. She wants to know how she can forgive him and he drops to one knee and pops open the ring box and the question. She walks away and leaves him there watching sadly.

George and Tancy are swapping presents. She tells him it’s the greatest gift ever. She made him a pear cozy – she knitted it for him so he can take a pear to work in his briefcase and keep it warm. She says she even learned to knit to make it for him. She asks for her gift and he tells her he wants to give it to her somewhere special and they head into town.

Wade helps his Dad serve as Santa and they do a great job. Zoe watches and is impressed with Wade.

Crickett tells Lemon she wants all the dirt on the secret Annabeth just told her. She promises she’ll tell her in the new year. Brick wants to know what it’s about and Lemon says she’ll tell him later too.

Lavon comes to see Ruby and she tearfully breaks up with him – he’s understandably devastated.

Zoe tells her Mom she’s sorry for lying to her, but that she loves her life in Bluebell. She tells him she’s messed it up with Wade – she pushed him away. Candice says she doesn’t see a future between Wade and Zoe, but that she should go for it if it makes her happy. She reminds Zoe that her one wild choice brought her Zoe when she had an affair with a small town doctor years ago.

Lavon comes to confront Lemon. He asks her why she had to tell her all those things and wreck their relationship. He says she never gave him a chance because she always had George on her mind and broke his heart and then broke it again when she ruined his relationship with Ruby. He says he’ll never forgive her.

George takes Tancy to Santa’s house to give her the gift, but sees Shelby and Brick getting frisky in the Christmas shack. He agrees to not tell anyone else and they head back to his boat for the gift exchange.

Zoe comes to apologize to Wade for everything and she tells him that she really likes him. He wants to know what she means and she asks him to be her out in public, for real boyfriend. He doesn’t say anything and she backpedals and says it’s okay if he doesn’t want to. But he does – he really does. He gives her a sweet kiss and takes her inside to get frisky. Carolers show up and he tells them to get lost, that they’re busy.
