Phillip Phillips Set To Win American Idol

Phillip Phillips Set To Win American Idol

Phillip Phillips is set to win on Anerican Idol.  American Idols results show which we recapped here at CDL showed us a bit of a surpise.  Joshua Ledet seemed to have the judges in his pocket during his entire run on American Idol, but the fans thought otherwise.  Despite his standing ovation on Thursday night’s elimination show, Ledet was sent home, leaving Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips to battle for this year’s title.

Phillip Phillips is the indubitable favorite heading into the finale, though Jessica Sanchez fans will be confident she can break the long list of recent male winners.  Sanchez has impressed the judges from the very first week of competition.  The home-schooled high school student from Chula Vista, California, has shown a depth and range well beyond her years when performing.

Fan favorite and former pawn shop worker, Phillips impressed the judges and mentor Jimmy Iovine Wednesday night by delivering one of his strongest performance of the season by singing an impassioned version Bob Seger’sWe’ve Got Tonight.”

Before Ryan Seacrest’s announcement of the two finalists, Sanchez, Phillips and Ledet all huddled together on the “American Idol” stage as judge Randy Jackson told them, “You guys are three of the best that we’ve ever had…You all got big careers in front of you.” (Doesn’t he say that every year??)

Steven Tyler chimed in, “I love you guys so much because you have the courage to have a dream. If you don’t have a dream, then there’s no way for you to make one come true.”

Ledet took his defeat with the class and composure of a true gentleman saying, “Before ‘Idol,’ I never experienced something this big. Coming this far, I’m definitely proud of myself.”

The finale – which will feature two hours of performances and guest appearances – will take place on Tuesday (May 22, 2012), with the results episode taking place the very next evening.  Will you be watching?  Who do you think is going to be the next American Idol?  Tell us in the comments below!
