The fashion world is taking a moment of silence as renowned hair stylist and fashion icon, Vidal Sassoon has passed away. It is said that the 84 year old died today at home on Mulholland Drive in Hollywood, of an unspecified illness. Vidal was reportedly diagnosed with leukemia in 2009. It’s unclear what role the cancer played in his death. He was surrounded by family at the time of his passing.
Vidal was credited with creating the popular women’s haircut known as “the bob”. He fourth wife Rhonda was with him right up until his death and he is survived by three children.

The hair icon was married four times — most recently to Rhonda Sassoon in 1992, who stayed with him until his death. He is also survived by three children. Vidal was 84.
Vidal seemed pretty healthy right up until the end — in fact, we spoke to him just last week (below) … and he gave us some pretty useful hair tips.
