Since filing for divorce from Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes has been seen smiling quite a bit lately, and is obviously thrilled to have put her marriage behind her. Tom Cruise on the other hand has been looking incredibly disappointed and somber. So what gives?
The fact that Katie filed for divorce just mere days before Tom hit a milestone of 50 years of age spoke volumes about how much she really no longer cared for this man. Also, Katie knew or should have known what the number 33 meant to Tom and how significant it would be for her to leave him at the same age as his previous wives, Nicole Kidman and Mimi Rogers – in so doing she would bring up past pain and loss.
There is clearly resentment and possibly anger there on Katie’s part towards Tom that I believe goes a lot deeper than Suri and protecting her form Scientology. Possibly it could have centered upon the opportunities that Katie felt that she might have missed out on as a result of Tom’s behavior. Perhaps there was a disconnect between what she had hoped for in the marriage and what she actually got.
Either way, the fact that Katie could single-handedly mastermind a “mission impossible” divorce and get Tom’s ex-wife, Nicole Kidman, in on it tells me that the smiles on her face are not just smiles, but laughter of disbelief! Katie must be amazed and delighted that she was able to take on Tom and win one for her, Suri, and the other women that he hurt. But the good news in all of this is that both parents clearly love Suri, and their love for her will at some point teach them how to be friends again so that they can successfully co-parent.
