While Kate Middleton Is Alone Prince William's Falklands Mission Criticized

Kate Middleton is now without her prince for an extended period as Prince William’s deployment to the Falkland Islands went into effect last night. To complicate matters William’s inclusion in the military exercises in the disputed territory has been sharply criticized Argentine officials.

The separation will be the longest so far for William and Kate since their wedding in April 2011. Kate is “very supportive” of her husband’s military service and she has been preparing to function independently for a while now.

Prince William in his role as RAF search-and-rescue pilot flew out to the islands last night. Although the Falklands are categorized as an internally self-governing British Overseas Territory, the Prince’s inclusion awoke the fury of Argentina’s Foreign Ministry, who are unhappy about the prince taking part in the trip.

The Foreign Ministry of Argentina – who has claimed sovereignty of the islands, resulting in a war between the two countries in 1982 which was eventually won by Britain – said it “rejected the British attempt to militarise the conflict” and expressed regret that an heir to the throne would arrive wearing “the uniform of a conqueror.”

The ministry added in a statement: “Governments should avoid the temptation of falling into a discourse … that aims to distract public attention from belt-tightening economic policies.”

General Sir David Richards, the Chief of the Defence Staff, insisted sending William to the Falkland Islands was not done to provoke Argentina.

Last year, Argentine official Sebastian Brugo Marco said the country could not ignore the ‘political’ implications of William’s deployment.

He said: “It is one more provocative act that shows Britain’s military presence in a zone of peace where there is no armed conflict.”
