Is American Idol attempting a huge shake up in the judge lineup for next season? According to a new report from Radar Online, Idol producers are planning to combat the rapidly dropping ratings by throwing out every single one of their old judges and bringing in new, ‘fresh’ faces. Who would this new panel of judges include? Oh, none other than Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez, Pink, and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs.
Let’s be real here – just Justin and Selena’s presence would be able to bring in the entire teeny bopper audience, so it’s not a bad idea. But there’s no way they’re going to convince JB and Selena to be on the judging panel, especially if they’re in the breakup stage of their ongoing on again/off again relationship.
Besides, as much as they dispute it, American Idol is really the last stop for a singer. It’s what you do when you need to change up your image or you need a fresh perspective on your career. You get in, re-establish your fan base, and get out: i.e. Jennifer Lopez. Neither Bieber nor Gomez need this kind of boost for their careers, but American Idol would certainly be pulling a coup if they managed to pull this off.
A source told Radar, “It’s been a lackluster season for Idol and everyone involved with the show is well aware of it so that’s why producers are frantically working on lining up big name stars for season 14. There’s more drama going on behind the scenes of the show than on the stage, and that’s why there’s a major overhaul in the works. A telling sign was that the highlight of the season was Mariah and Nicki’s explosive feud that was leaked on the web – and that was before the season even aired. Producers have been trying to recreate that buzz ever since and it hasn’t worked – the public isn’t buying it. The judges don’t have real chemistry, and there’s no real standout contestant.”
The current judges, Mariah Carey, Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban, and Randy Jackson are all probably not returning for Season 13, according to Radar’s report. There have already been plenty of reports that Nicki will be replaced by Lopez for next year, which means that Idol producers must have a lot of money saved up to be able to entice their ‘new panel of judges’.
