You guys remember who Susan Smith is, right? She is the South Carolina woman who strapped her two sons into their car seats and then pushed her car into a lake, watching as her boys drowned. The crime may have happened in 1994 but I think almost everyone is familiar with it and Susan is now serving a life sentence at South Carolina’s Leath Correctional Institution for their murders. Susan had admitted to watching the car roll away but now according to the Oct. 14th print edition of National Enquirer, she also claims to have planned to be in the car too. It started to roll and then got stuck so she got out to push it, killing just her sons.
Christie Leann Smith is Susan’s former jail friend that recently decided to dish some details. Apparently Susan insists that she intended to commit suicide because she thinks it will soften the view that other inmates have of her. After nearly 20 years behind bars she also knows how to play people. Susan hooks up with the biggest, baddest chicks in the clink because they make love like men and offer her protection from other prisoners.
Susan also has contact with the outside world thanks to the prison pen pal network. Apparently she has several men wrapped around her finger and they deposit tons of money on her jail house account. She used to use a chunk of it to pay Christie to watch for guards while she hooked up with various lovers. It sounds like Susan has found a way to make the most of her life sentence, doesn’t it?
