Not many people realize that Bill Nye the Science Guy actually just started out as Bill Nye, comedian. Bill got his start after he won a Steve Martin look-a-like contest, but then went on to become a stand up comedian. He transitioned into doing the ‘science guy’ as a comedic gag, but then realized that he wanted to create a show targeting kids that dealt with science.
According to his official bio, “Eleven years later, Bill Nye the Science Guy had won 18 Emmys. Nye won seven of them as host and head writer.”
The bio also several other details about what Bill has been up to since he finished with Bill Nye The Science Guy: “These days, Nye travels around the globe exhorting his audiences to change the world. He also has a day job as the CEO of The Planetary Society, the world’s largest non-governmental space interest organization. Nye has written six children’s books and is working on a seventh about space exploration. He’s also writing a general interest book about energy. He was awarded the Ralph Coats Roe Medal by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and holds honorary doctorates from Johns Hopkins, Rensselaer Polytechnic, Goucher, Quinnipiac, Willamette, and Lehigh Universities.”
Bill’s partner on Dancing with the Stars will be Tyne Stecklein, who will make his debut as a pro dancer on DWTS this season.
