Cory Monteith’s final recorded moments were poignant and devastating, to say the least. Although Cory spent a lifetime fighting against his addiction to drugs and getting his life back in order, he recorded a message during his flight to Vancouver to a fan telling her to stay out of trouble and stay in school. A flight attendant had asked him to send a message to her boyfriend’s young daughter, Mallory.
In the video, Cory’s message stated, “Mallory, hey I’m Cory. I wanted to record this video for you guys just to let you know to stay out of trouble and stay in school.” Two things that Cory didn’t manage to do when he was younger, but that played an important role in his earlier addiction to drugs. Cory spent a lot of time in the past few years supporting various charities in Vancouver that helped youth stay motivated, stay in school, and stay off drugs. Unfortunately, he couldn’t save himself.
That’s one of the saddest things about this whole affair. I mean, every death is sad, but in Cory’s case, he was such a genuine and wonderful person that always went out of his way to spend time with fans. As his co-star Jane Lynch said on the Jay Leno show, he truly knew how lucky he was to be able to do what he was doing and to be living life every day. He once flew across the country to spend time with a sick kid whose last wish was to meet him, and these acts of kindness weren’t random.
