These new reports are so off on casting details, it’s not even funny. Several new ‘sources’ claim that Chace Crawford is gaining buzz to play Christian Grey, because previous frontrunners Ian Somerhalder, Henry Cavill, and Matt Bomer might be too old for the ‘coveted role’?
Did these people even read the books? Or you know, use google? Christian Grey is supposed to be around his 30s, and Henry, Ian, and Matt fit the age bracket perfectly. Also, look at Garrett Hedlund, who the role was already offered to [although he turned it down]. He’s 28 years old, so that’s clearly the age bracket the filmmakers are aiming towards – late 20s to early 30s.
That’s why this latest rumor of Chace Crawford becoming the frontrunner for Christian Grey is so hilarious. Yes, he’s the same age as Garrett Hedlund at 28 years old. But he’s only a few years less than the other guys, so it doesn’t even make sense. It’s Hollywood. They have 30-year-olds playing high schoolers, vice versa. They can do everything they want, and I don’t think age will make a huge difference to them.
Disregarding Chace Crawford – I think if the producers already decided they don’t want Ian Somerhalder in the role, they’re not going to take an even lesser tier CW actor and put him in the role – the latest choice seemed to be Charlie Hunnam, fresh off Pacific Rim. But Charlie’s reps already denied the rumors, and while the producers did reportedly say that he was on their ‘list’, no official decisions had been made at that time. You know what that sounds like? Like his team went out of their way to shut down the rumors.
Anyway, what would you guys think of Chace Crawford for Fifty Shades of Grey? Let us know in the comments.
