Ian Somerhalder To Leave The Vampire Diaries And Nina Dobrev - Lands New Movie Role, Starting Film Career!

So, if any of you are big Ian Somerhalder fans, then you’ve already heard the news. Ian has just landed himself a juicy lead role in a sci-fi film called The Anomaly. The movie will be filming in and around the London area over The Vampire Diaries hiatus, and Ian’s set to star alongside Luke Hemsworth [yes, the other Hemsworth brother] and Noel Clarke. The synopsis provided by Deadline is, “an original action thriller that follows the efforts of a traumatized ex-soldier who wakes up in the back of a van, alongside a kidnapped boy, to find that he only has nine minutes and 37 seconds of consciousness to work out why and how he got there.”

It sounds interesting, and it’s said to focus on the topic of global terrorism, something that’s rarely dealt with in large scale films. If this works out, this could finally set in motion Ian’s long-awaited movie career. It was predicted that he would break out several years ago after ‘Lost’, but it never happened. Now, I love the Vampire Diaries, but trust me when I say that being on a CW show is not what most actors dream of.

Of course, everyone has heard about Ian’s breakup with his on screen/off screen love Nina Dobrev by now. Despite their assurances to the contrary, all reports point to signs of awkwardness and bad breakup syndrome. Even if they try their best, things are bound to get awkward during filming of the Vampire Diaries. Awkward enough for Ian to want to leave the show?

There have been many cases where the stars of a TV show have broken up, and one or both of them leave to pursue a ‘film career’. Sure, their careers could genuinely be taking off and they could be offered great roles – but the breakup will have played a role in that decision, I guarantee you. No one wants to work with someone that they broke up with, especially in a romantic capacity.

So while I don’t doubt that Ian’s talent [or his massive fan base] won him ‘The Anomaly’ role, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him leaving TVD to focus on his film career, especially if he starts getting offered more roles after this. However, that’s a worry for the future since he’s still contracted to a couple more seasons on the show. So, a couple more seasons of awkward make out sessions with his ex-girlfriend, then.
