It’s always interesting when a couple splits in Hollywood and then inevitably, months later, we start to learn the real story. While Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev announced their split in May it certainly seems as though they actually pulled the plug on their relationship shortly after the Oscars. At that point they went from photo bombing us and Tweeting in unison to never ever mentioning one another.

Of course Nina appeared to be left in the dust and so her friends went to bat for her, telling the press that she wasn’t ready to commit and so on. Lots of smoke and mirrors while Ian partied with random chicks and Nina grieved the relationship. Now we’re hearing rumblings that while lobbying for the lead role of Fifty Shades of Grey Ian was advised that if he were free and single his chances would be better.

That actually makes sense. Christian Grey is going to be a huge persona on screen that is synonymous with sex. Knowing that his portrayer is in a long term relationship might make the whole fantasy aspect a bit tougher to believe. Ian apparently took this advice to heart and cleaned house – or cleaned Nina out of his house. Ironically here we are months later and it has now been confirmed that Ian will not be Christian Grey, so where does that leave him with Nina?

She has made it pretty clear that she doesn’t even want to have to stand close to Ian at public appearances. Do you think that he’ll attempt to get her back? Does he regret letting his girlfriend of 3 years go in favor of a failed opportunity? Would she give him the time of day or just fear that it would happen again the next time another big role comes around?

And look at what Ian tweeted and Nina retweeted Sunday night!!! See, we told you…
