Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner have been together for over a decade now, and Ben’s never been busier while Jennifer’s never been less busy. An interesting reversal of roles, isn’t it? When they first got together, Ben was still a critically derided actor coming off the failures of Gigli and Daredevil, and while Jennifer wasn’t exactly the most lauded actress at the time, she was still hailed as the next big thing in romantic comedies.
What a difference ten years makes. Ben Affleck is now an Oscar winning director who’s managed to turn his whole career around, and he also landed two of the most sought after male roles in the past year, the lead in David Fincher‘s Gone Girl as well as Batman in Batman vs. Superman.
Jennifer, on the other hand, has largely stayed home while Ben has been ‘reinventing’ himself, and her career has suffered as a result. And she’s reportedly had enough.
Although she did get some time to film a couple of movies, she will once again have to stay home with the kids while Ben is busy filming Gone Girl and Batman Vs. Superman, which will take up the next two years, at least. In addition to that, Ben reportedly signed a nine picture deal for Batman, which means that he could conceivably be busy from now until 2020 – not even counting his other directorial and acting projects.
Can you blame Jennifer for wanting to get out? But would she really be willing to divorce him? I don’t think so. Her status in Hollywood would drop if she were to leave Ben, and she would no longer be the wife of an Oscar winning director – unless she found someone else. Although there were rumors in the past that she was thinking about leaving and attempting to live her life, those rumors were shot down by Jennifer herself. No, she just doesn’t have the guts to stand up to him, and demand a chance to concentrate on her own career and living her life. But maybe she just doesn’t care. Her priorities could be her children and keeping her family together, and you can’t really blame her for that. It’s not like her career was ever really great shakes anyway.
