Could Universal do this? Could they be so desperate that they decide to cast Justin Timberlake as Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey? When Charlie Hunnam decided to leave the film, no doubt worried about the crazy fans and the quality of the project, it left the studio and filmmakers scrambling and desperate to find a replacement. Filming is set to begin at the beginning of next month, and casting a role of this size is not an easy choice.
Now, every major A-list star has already turned down this film, and Charlie was as high as they were going to get without venturing into B-list and C-list territory. We know TV stars like Ian Somerhalder and Joe Manganiello are interested, but are they big enough to be the lead in a major studio picture?
It’s a well established fact that Justin Timberlake cannot act and his movies generally suck – in addition to not doing well at the box office. But if there was ever a movie that was completely critic free, it would be Fifty Shades of Grey. Much like Twilight, the fans don’t care about the quality of the film if their book is translated faithfully enough. And the source material is already so terrible that the chances of the movie being good are very low.
But to Justin Timberlake, it will finally be a chance to be JT, MOVIE STAR. He’s been trying for SO long to make his acting dreams happen, and it still hasn’t happened. Sure, he’s been given plenty of chances, but when has he headlined a movie that turned out to be really good AND make money? In fact, when was the last movie where his acting didn’t make the audience cringe? Yeah, exactly.
What do you guys think? Do you think Justin would ever be offered the role of Christian Grey, and would he accept if it was? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
