It was just another morning on the job for Kate Middleton as she accompanied Prince William to the London headquarters of Only Connect, a charity that works with teens that are consider at risk for criminal offenses. She chatted with the organization’s staff members and some of the teens while looking better rested than the last time we saw her. Remember the duchess grabbed headlines recently for her gray roots of death and then later appeared a little too lighthearted at what was intended to be a somber Veteran’s Day service.
On those occasions she was criticized for not being at her best but today’s outing was reminiscent of Kate before she became a mom. Sure she looks a little more tired and I still kind of want to feed her a sandwich, but there is improvement. She recycled a patterned Orla Kiely coat dress that she wore once before on a trip to Oxford and who can blame her? The dress sold out within hours the last time she wore it and I’m betting it does once again. It’s simply perfect.
I think we have come to expect Kate to always look perfect and the recent baubles only go hand in hand with William’s insistence that they are as normal as possible. Normal new moms are sleep deprived, put themselves second behind their babies needs and some go through serious bouts of postpartum depression. We have seen evidence of all of these things with Kate and now it appears that she may have found her way through some of the toughest months of her life to finally get to her new normal.
