When fans turn up in droves [or watch the TV in droves] at a major event to see one of their favorite stars sing, they expect to actually hear them sing, not fake it. There have been plenty of lip sync scandals in the past, but this time, the anger is turned towards Mariah Carey. Carey took the stage during the American Idol finale and she performed a medley of some of her most famous hits, including We Belong Together and Beautiful. However, Twitter was soon trending with fans complaining about how Mariah wasn’t singing live, and that she was actually lip-syncing her way through everything.
An example of a fan complaining on Twitter is, “I’m pretty sure @mariahcarey performing #Beautiful on #Idol was lip syncing ooo haha the international diva????????”
Now, it’s pretty much a given fact that Mariah Carey is known to be incredibly vain. I mean, you only need to look at her Disneyland wedding to figure that out. In addition, she didn’t earn the nick-name ‘diva’ for no reason. It wouldn’t be a surprise at all to hear that Mariah was lip syncing, probably because she didn’t want to mess up her lines or worry about not looking perfect in front of millions of people.
Her rep, of course, denies the allegations, claiming, “No, she did not lip-sync! She sang 3x and even sang additional songs for fans in between (ads).” Well, duh – her rep is paid to say that. Does that mean it’s true? Well, if I had a dollar for every time a celebrity’s rep lied, I would be a millionaire.
