Miley Cyrus Claims Her Scandalous, Twerking Self's Here To Stay: That's Just Me, She Says!

Everyone needs to calm down over Miley Cyrus’ infamous VMA performance. The former Disney princess, now “Twerk-Queen,” is speaking out and defending her onstage antics. As she stated in her 2008 hit, “See You Again,” she was just being Miley. “I didn’t even think about it, because that’s just me,” Cyrus stated in an interview for her upcoming MTV documentary.

Cyrus also claims critics are being unnecessarily harsh. After all, scandalous performances have been done before, especially on the VMAs. VMA performances are known for pushing the boundaries. Britney Spears and Madonna have both done it. Rapper Lil’ Kim once appeared with her left breast exposed!

Though Miley is a little shocked people are still talking about it, she accomplished her goal with a little help from “Blurred Lines” singer, Robin Thicke. She admits, “the whole time [Robin Thicke] said, ‘You know we’re about to make history right now.’”

Miley’s performance may have been a little over the top, but I think the uproar over her right to twerk and using the African-American culture for her own gain is a little too much. I’m not speaking on behalf of all African-Americans, just as Miley doesn’t represent the “homegirls with the big butt” she references in her song. But, in her defense, if everyone saw you as a 12-year-old girl singing bubblegum pop songs while wearing sequined pants and a bad blonde, lace front wig, you’d probably want to change your image too.

It is clear that Hannah Montana is no more. Miley Cyrus secured her spot in VMA history; even Gaga’s comeback was overshadowed by Miley’s tongue-in-cheek performance. What do you think about Miley Cyrus’ twerking at the VMAs? Let us know in the comments section below!
