Tonight ABC premiers their new drama MISTRESSES. The TV show is based on the hit UK television series of the same name. The series is a provocative and edgy drama about the scandalous lives of a sexy and sassy group of four girlfriends, each on her own path to self-discovery. Mistresses is a sexy new drama about the sometimes shocking lives of the women.
The show stars Alyssa Milano as Savannah (“Savi”) Davis, Yunjin Kim as Karen Kim, Rochelle Aytes as April Malloy, Jes Macallan as Josslyn Carver, Brett Tucker as Harry Davis, Jason George as Dominic Taylor and Erik Stocklin as Sam Grey.
In the premiere episode called, “Pilot,” Savannah (“Savi”) is a successful career woman working toward the next phase in her life — both professionally and personally — bucking for partner at the law firm where she works while also trying to start a family with her husband, Harry. But when their fertility issues begin to take center stage, Savi finds herself attracted to her flirtatious colleague, Dominic. Savi’s free-spirited and capricious baby sister, Josslyn, couldn’t be more different, living single, serial dating and partying. A real estate agent, Josslyn has no interest in a committed, long-term relationship.
Their common best friend, April, is a recent widow and mother of a ten-year-old daughter. After she receives her late husband’s lucrative life insurance check, she begins getting prank phone calls and tells her closest girlfriends that she’s convinced her husband is still alive. Another long-time friend, Karen, is a therapist with her own thriving practice, reconnecting with the girls after her involvement in a complicated relationship with a wealthy, married patient goes too far: She was having an affair with a terminally ill client to whom she had prescribed morphine.
These four friends find support and guidance with each other as they brave their turbulent journeys and life’s storms chock fall of excitement, secrecy and betrayal, all the while bound by the complex relationships they’ve created. To some extent this show seems to be derivative of Sex and the City – but notice that times have changed and the cast is designed to be ethnically diverse and representative of the desired audience.
Tonight’s premiere is going to be an exciting one filled with drama that you won’t want to miss – the producers know they need to get you interested right from the get go therefore you can expect a great show. RECAP: Savannah (Savi) and her husband are desperately trying to get pregnant and are roll playing to spice things up a bit. Her friend, Karen is a therapist that began sleeping with her terminally ill client. He found out that there was no hope and she helped him to die then attended his funeral. While there his grown son tells Karen that he knew his father was having an affair and needs to talk to her. He later shows up at her front door and Karen watches him on her surveillance camera in fear.
Karen gets into work the next day and finds Sam waiting for her. He had a fight with his father the day before he died and he wants to talk to his mistress to be sure that his father didn’t hate him. She is stuck trying to figure out how to reassure him.
April is widowed with a ten year old daughter. She owns a store and men really like her but she’s not quite ready to date until a handsome man has a bumbling approach towards her. That seems to win her over. Meanwhile Savi is tired of feeling like a baby machine and misses feeling like a sexual being. When Dominic at work realizes she’s got sexy stuff on under her corporate suit. He offers to finish up her work for a ten second peek. She offers five seconds and hikes up her skirt before tossing her file at him and strutting out the door.
She drops in on her husband Harry at work and he is upset when he catches a peek. He found out that morning that their fertility issues are his fault.
April is getting ready for a date with the help of Jossalyn and Savi when Karen comes to see them. She breaks down and confides about the affair. Savi, as an attorney tells her to back away from the family immediately because it’s not just an affair that could cost her license but she also provided the drugs that killed him.
Savi finally talks to Harry and it turns into a battle. He flips out over the baby situation and Savi ends up in tears.
Karen is taking hits from all sides when Sam shows up with flowers saying he wants to take her out. She insists he leave and Savi calls from her law office. Apparently her patients wife has hired them because the insurance thinks he died under suspiscious circumstances.
April answers her door to a woman with a smile boy. She tells April that the child belonged to her husband. This pilot wraps up with Savi and Dominic caving in and tumbling undressed onto a desk. Tune in next week for more Mistresses!
