If you watched MTV back in the 90’s then you’ll no doubt remember Lisa Kennedy Montgomery, yeah, Kennedy, a loud-mouthed, borderline bonkers VJ that was on nearly every day. She was a nerdy chick that seemed to be smarter than the average bear and now 20-years later she’s kind of proving that she knows her worth. The Kennedy Chronicles is heading to a bookstore near you and in it she recounts her adventures as a VJ rubbing elbows with Hollywood’s elite, when MTV was in its heyday. In other words, it still played music and VJ’s actually served a purpose back then. They introduced clips and chatted up celebs on a regular basis.
Of course, Kennedy has a million stories to tell and so she waited for just the right time to strike. The first tidbit she is offering up involved Michael Jordan at the Bowery Bar back in 1995. While drinking with Kennedy and Russell Simmons, Jordan broke out some dice and wanted to play. He suggested that if he beat Kennedy she would have to join him in his hotel room later on. Apparently, she was a terrified 23-year-old virgin at the time (as if!) and suggested they play for basketball tickets instead. After she shot down Jordan’s suggestion he reminded her that he was a married man.
As she puts it,
“Sure, he’ll filet my vag like a sea bass if he won at dice on a men’s room floor,” Kennedy writes … “but as soon as I want basketball tickets he’s a Promise Keeper? Whatevs.”
I’m sure Kennedy has enough crazy experiences to fill a lot more than this book and the whole project dropping now is pretty interesting. Girlfriend held her stories close to her chest but decided to share them when she could profit most. That golden era of MTV has passed but a lot of the people she mentions are still at the farther edge of relevance. That means people will inevitably bite and this book will sell.
I’m not sure that I need to see Kennedy naked on the cover though. I mean it reeks of attention seeking and I’m kind of surprised there isn’t a puppy and baby crammed in there somewhere too. Nudity, babies and puppies – the trifecta of attention grabbing marketing!
As for Jordan, did he try to hit it or is Kennedy just creating her history for the sake of book sales? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
