Nigel Lythgoe has been fired from American Idol! After being with Idol for 12 seasons in the capacity of producer Nigel’s tired recipe failed miserably last season and he has justifiably been given sack by FOX. At 63 years of age Nigel had a long run but commercial interests weighed in and now the bell tolls for the Brit. FOX also dumped co-executive producer Ken Warwick indicating that they finally realized just how awful Idol has become.
On Twitter Nigel confirmed: “just had 10 days in the Bahamas, rain everyday. I get back to the States and get fired. Sad! Monday we choose our top 20. I’ll smile again.”
“Yes, don’t worry I’m on #SYTYCD. FOX still loves me. It’s not a personal thing they just feel IDOL needs new leadership after 12 Seasons,” he added.
FOX had this to say about the sacking: “The passion and dedication that Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick brought to American Idol guided the show to become a true cultural phenomenon. While we are saddened they will no longer be executive producers on the show, we are grateful for their tremendous contributions and look forward to continuing to work with them on additional projects.”
Working with them on additional projects? Like what? Cleaning out their offices?
The American Idol finale lost seven million viewers in 2013 compared to 2012. Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj, and Mariah Carey have already been fired and we can only hope Fox gets rid of Ryan Seacrest – he is so boring, trite and plastic.
In fact the world would survive nicely without another season of American Idol. The show that was a talent competition in which the audience determined the outcome is now it is a pathetic agony aunt chronicle of back stories and Oprah-ized ‘human interest.’ Maybe next season the Idol idiots will hire Dr. Drew, Dr. Phil and Ricki Lake for the judging panel.
