Watching costars Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder explore an off-screen romance has to be one of the few non-sickening things in Hollywood. While most celebs are busy selling out or getting Botox, these two are playing coy lovers on Twitter, trying to save the earth, and spreading love. Though we’d love for them to stop being teases and admit that they’ll costar in Fifty Shades of Grey—though new reports say it’s Emma Roberts and Ed Westwick starring (No, no!)—we’ll have to settle for their cute tweets.
Yesterday was Valentine’s day, and both made it a point to share a little extra love with the fans. Ian tweeted a lovely picture of himself wearing a Gandhi t-shirt, captioned “I like to wear my heroes on my chest . . .” while Nina promoted a DVD giveaway to the fan who sent in the best lipstick kiss picture. “Doesn’t matter what language you say it in, it has the same meaning. ‘A rose by any other name would smell as sweet,’” she posted.
Nina and Ian are quickly becoming some of the hottest stars in Hollywood, and we love to see them taking time to reach out to their fans. We’ve been skeptical that their relationship could survive their crazy travel and film schedules, and though it pains me to see Ian with another woman, I’m glad it’s her! They seem as low-maintenance as stars can be, and are always looking for a way to give back.
Of course, none of this accounts for the cray cray that their characters are up to on The Vampire Diaries. Just because they’re great together in real life doesn’t mean the Damon-Elena relationship is going the way we want it to! And after last night’s episode, it’s pretty much impossible to say what will happen next. Let’s imagine that one of them eventually leaves the show: would their real life romance survive? Do you love them as a couple?
