In Neverland, one of the Lost Boys takes a stab at Henry and starts to bully him, not believing he’s the one Pan has been waiting for all this time. Henry takes a stick up and pokes back. Pan says it would be better if they had real swords. He tells Henry if he closes his eyes and believes he’s holding a real sword he will be. He does and suddenly he has a sword in hand. The other boy is in a panic because he only has a wooden stick.

He cuts down his stick and slashes him across the face but then apologizes. Pan tells him the best thing about being a Lost Boy is that you never have to apologize. The other LBs cheer him and he raises his sword in triumph!

Still in Neil’s old lair, the gang continues to look for clues about how to get off the island. Emma looks at the scribbles on the walls and said that Neil stopped keeping track of his days there when he lost hope. She doesn’t want Henry to lose hope and says they have to get clever and find a way to get a message to him so he won’t lose hope.

Hook tries to bond/flirt with Emma and she shuts him down. Charming takes it a step further and tells him Emma will never like or trust him because he’s nothing but a pirate. We see a flashback to the old days when Hook was a legitimate Navy officer – a Lieutenant – and not a pirate. He chastises a crew member caught with rum and says he won’t tolerate bad form and tosses the bottle overboard. The Captain comes aboard – it’s Hook’s big brother – and they discuss the mission the King has given him. He gifts Hook with a fancy sextant that’s to guide them to a strange new land. His brother says it will bring peace to the kingdom. Hook calls for the ship to set sail.

In the present, Hook watches Emma work on a trap. She wants to set a trap to send a message. David and Hook head in the jungle to get more vines for rope. Hook asks him what he wants and he tells him to stay away from Emma. Hook tells him he’s going to die in a day or two anyway so what he wants doesn’t matter. Hook tells him that he knows a way to save him and David says he doesn’t want to get off course of saving Henry.

David tells him that he’ll never get Emma – that he’ll see to it. David takes a swing at him and collapses. Hook catches him and lowers him gently to the ground but can’t revive him. He sloshes some rum into David’s mouth and he chokes back to consciousness. Hook insists he show him the wound and you can see the dream shade has almost reached his heart. Hook tells him he’s got hours to live and needs to tell his family now.

David finds a military insignia on the ground – it says Jones. Hook tells him Jones was his Captain and brother. He says it was on a satchel that his brother lost in a duel with Pan. He spots a rock above them and says it’s called Dead Man’s Pit. He says if they can find his brother’s satchel it was on, they could find the sextant that could help them to use Neil’s star chart to navigate off the island.

In the past, we see the brothers looking at star charts. Hook says he hasn’t seen the constellations before and his brother tells him no one has because it’s a new land. Someone shouts that they see an enemy ship and they pick up speed to avoid the cannon fire that has begun. They shout to the crew to deploy the “Pegasus.”

They lower a giant sail that’s made from the feathers of Pegasus. Hook asks if that was the horse that could fly and he says it was – and now so can they. Their ship lifts up into the sky and flies up and away from the enemy ships. In the sky, the Captain tells Hook to set a course for the second star to the right and straight on until morning.

Hook tells Emma about the sextant and he tells her she needs to get the message to Henry while he and David chase the sextant. David tells Emma to be careful and to be sure to tell Henry that Grandpa loves him. He hugs Emma close and she seems perplexed but hugs him back and wishes him luck. He also hugs Mary and she says see you soon. He tells her Neverland is dangerous and you never know what will happen. She says he’ll be fine. He kisses her tenderly and tells her that he loves her. They leave.

Mary takes aim at a wild boar – no wait – she’s aiming at the trap overhead of the Lost Boy that’s aiming at the wild boar. He asks them if they’re trying to start a war with Pan. They say no and that they just want him to deliver a message. Regina offers a chocolate bar and Emma tells him they can help get all the boys back to their families. He takes the chocolate and then throws it into the woods. He tells them he’s there because he wants to be. Emma points to the gash on his cheek and says Pan’s a monster – look what he did to you. He shocks them when he tells them Henry did it!

David is struggling and he tells Hook he wants him to tell them that he died fighting to save them and not that he left them while he was dying. Hook asks why he should help and David explains the whole chain that started with Hook stealing the beans and them ending up there. David tells him he had a twin brother that was a thief and a liar. Hook tells him his brother was a stubborn ass.

In the past, we see Hook and his brother on the shore of the island. Hook asks what the king wanted there and he says it’s a plant – potent enough to heal any injury. Pan comes up on them and tells them they look lost. He tells them he lives there. The Captain introduces himself and says he’s there on orders of the king. Pan tells him there’s no king there. He shows him a sketch of the plant and he says it’s the deadliest plant on the island and that their King wants it to kill, not to heal.

The Captain doesn’t believe him although Hook wonders if the King has sent them after a weapon. They head into the jungle and Pa says – don’t say I didn’t warn you.

At the top of the cliff where Hook has climbed first, Pan tells him not to pull David up yet. He says he wants to talk to him first. He tells Hook that if he wants to work with him again, he’ll give him passage off the island for him plus one more and that he can take Emma. Hook says Emma won’t leave her son and Pan reminds him she did once already. Hook agrees and Pan says he needs a sign of his consent. He tells him he must kill David. Hook says he’s dying of dream shade poison. Pan says that’s no good – he tells him Hook has to sink his hook into him and take his life and then he’ll know they’re good.

By then David has clawed his own way to the top of the cliff and asks who he was talking to – he says to himself and that it’s an old seagoing habit.

In the past, the brothers come to the plant – exactly where Pan told them they would find it. Hook says he believes Pan when he told him it was a poison. The Captain says he trusts their King. He cuts off a part of the plant and cuts himself with it. He tells him he’s fine and it’s proof that the King would never lie to him. But then he gasps and collapses as the poison spreads up his arm and poisons him.

Now, the Lost Boy tells him that Henry is the most vicious new recruit Pan has ever had. Regina wants to rip his heart out so he’ll do what she commands. Mary says that’s not the way they do things. Emma says they have to get word to Henry and she holds Mary tight so she can’t stop her and tells Regina to do it. She does and Mary’s not happy with them.

Emma apologizes to Mary and she tells her she will do anything to get to Henry. Mary says she wants to make sure that Emma doesn’t cross the line to doing what Regina would do and what they’re willing to do. Emma makes it clear that she’ll do anything.

At the top of the cliff, David pulls his sword and tells Hook he heard him talking to Pan. Hook tells him he didn’t agree. He also tells him that his brother didn’t lose his satchel up there and that he dropped the insignia so David would find it. He tells him that he brought him there to cure him.

In the past, Pan comes upon Hook trying to revive his brother. He begs Pan for help. Pan says there is a way to stop him from dying. He shows him a spring with healing waters. He says if you drink directly from it you can cure anything. He tells him that all magic comes at a price and the spring is no exception. He tells him not to leave the island unless he’s willing to pay the price. Hook says whatever it takes, it’s yours. He scoops up some water and takes it to his brother. It heals him instantly. The Captain asks what happened and Hook says they have to pay Pan, but he’s gone.

In camp, the Lost Boy approaches Henry with his message. He tells him his family is there and are trying to find him. Henry says he’s making it up because he’s mad about the fight. He gives Henry the magi compact and he sees his two moms – Regina and Emma. Henry says it’s a trick and Emma says it’s not – she says it’s Operation Cobra Rescue. He sees Pan coming and tells them he has to go. They tell him they love him and he closes the mirror.

The shop is headed back home and Hook asks his brother how he feels. He says he should have listened to him and that now they will expose the King’s cowardice for trying to use dark weapons to win a war. He says it’s bad form. They splash back down into the ocean and one of the mates yells Land Ho! Hook asks the Captain if he wants company when he reports to the officers. His brother collapses choking and Hook screams for help.

In the present, David has collapsed and Hook takes his sword and cuts his way through to the magical spring. He gets the water and comes back and wakes David. He offers him water that he says will stop the dream shade and save his life. David says Hook knew he wouldn’t leave his family to come chase the cure. Hook tells him the catch is that he can never leave Neverland. If he leaves, the magic will stop working and he’ll die. David says it’s a small price to pay to be able to save his grandson. David drinks and is healed. He asks why Hook saved his life and he tells him he didn’t do it for him.

Mary tells Emma she didn’t want to give into the darkness and Regina tells her that Emma didn’t turn to the dark side, that she did it for them. She says that’s what she’s there for. There’s a rustling in the trees and Emma goes on guard and Regina raises some fire. It’s David and Hook. David tells them that the Lost Boys got the sextant first. He also tells them that they were surrounded and Hook saved his life from a LB’s poisoned arrow. They all drink (except Regina) from his rum flask and toast him.

Emma pulls him aside and asks if he really did it. He says he did and she thanks him. He wants a kiss in return and she tells him he can’t handle it. He says it’s her that can’t. She kisses him passionately and he wants another but she says it was a one time thing. She tells him to come back to camp separately so no one knows. He says – as you wish. She walks away and he rubs his lips and looks after her thoughtfully.

In the past, Hook watches as his brother is buried at sea. One of the mates hands Hook his brother’s satchel and says it belongs to him now and calls him Captain. Hook says the satchel will never leave his sight. He tells the crew that they are sworn to serve King and realm. He tells them the King sent them to retrieve a poison that killed their dear Captain. He tells them that never again will anyone set sail to that cursed land. He sets fire to the Pegasus sail. He tells them that he will never again sail under the King’s flag. He tells any that don’t like it can leave. He says the kingdom is corrupt and immoral and he will take everything from them. He says their ship will now be known as the Jolly Rodger and that when they come for him they will know them as pirates. He says that at least there is honor among thieves. The crew cheers and chants his name in support.

Hook sits drinking rum when Pan finds him in the jungle. He tells Hook he should have taken his deal. Hook says he doesn’t need any help with Emma. Pan says the kiss means nothing and Hook says she’s starting to see him as he is. Pan says he’s a one handed pirate with a drinking problem. Pan reveals to him that Neil is alive and that he’s the man Emma loves. He also tells him that Neil is there in Neverland. Pan says he’ll leave it to Hook to decide whether or not to tell Emma that the man she loves is alive and on the island. He says that will show what kind of man he really is.

The Lost Boys have Neil drugged and in a cage. Pan tells them to hang him up next to the other one. They hoist his prison box up next to another one that is obviously populated because it’s moving side to side but we can’t see who is in it!
