Ravenswood RECAP 11/5/13: Season 1 Episode 3 “Believe”

Ravenswood RECAP 11/5/13: Season 1 Episode 3 “Believe”

Tonight on the ABC Family the new series RAVENSWOOD continues with a new episode called “Believe.”  On tonight’s show, in order to prove to Luke that something otherworldly is happening, the gang decides to hold a séance.  Did you watch last week’s  episode?  We did and we recapped it for you, right here.

On last week’s show, Caleb struggled in the aftermath of what happened at the Ravenswood Homecoming Parade.  A shocking discovery was made by Remy. Meanwhile, Luke and Olivia faced facts about their parents; Miranda struggled to adjust to changes in her life; Luke didn’t hide his dislike of Caleb; and Caleb encountered someone unexpected.

On tonight’s show Luke is resistant when Caleb and Remy try to convince him that Ravenswood is being plagued by the supernatural. To convince him, they decide to try and contact the “other side.” Olivia begins her own investigation into her father’s death, which turns much more sinister than she was expecting. Remy grows more concerned about her mother, who recently returned from Afghanistan. And while Miranda continues to yearn for a connection to her family, she begins to feel like someone, or something is watching her.  Meanwhile, everyone gathers for a somber event, and Raymond and Miranda both offer Caleb a reason to stay in Ravenswood.

We hope you stop by for this new show!  If you are fans of Pretty Little Liars I am sure you will enjoy it.  Make sure to come back here later tonight at 8 PM EST for your recap. What are you most looking forward to this season?

REVIEW

In tonight’s episode, Caleb and Remy try their hardest to convince Luke and Olivia that there’s something going on in the town of Ravenswood. Remy is certain that there’s a supernatural atmosphere to the town and, while Caleb is quick to hop on board (as he’s seeing Miranda’s ghost), Luke and Olivia are still being weighted down by the realities of their father’s murder.

Uncle Raymond prepares a funeral for Miranda. Several of the townsfolk attend, despite not knowing her as a person. Luke, Olivia, Remy, and Caleb attend, all of who continue to feel guilty for being alive. Miranda stands beside Caleb as Raymond lowers her body into the ground; she’s worried that she’ll disappear forever, finally be thrown into that “afterplace” where the dead go and stay buried. Into the light.

At the funeral, Luke and Olivia notice that their mother is being harassed, once again, by the sheriff. Luke questions one of his cop friends, who’s also privy to his mother’s case. He finally leaks that there’s a new suspect in the case, a name that has popped up that has raised interests. Someone by the name of Abby. Later that night, Luke and Olivia question their mother: Who’s Abby? She wonders where on earth they got that name . . . . She finally says that their father dated her while in high school. But that she died twenty years ago.

Not long after the funeral, Raymond summons Caleb and thanks him for saying all those kind words about his niece. Raymond wishes that he himself could’ve been more eloquent, said nicer things about her, but he felt as if he didn’t deserve/earn that luxury. Caleb agrees. Raymond has always been kind of a dick . . . . but perhaps he’s trying to turn over a new leaf. When Caleb says that he might be sticking around for a few days (of course he means much longer than a few days), Raymond extends an offer to him that he simply can’t refuse: He can stay in his Carriage House and serve as groundskeeper for the cemetery.

During this episode, Abby finds herself sneaking around the school laboratory, the setting where countless people died in a lab fire. While there, she hears voices, and soon she witnesses the ghost of Abby — all burned up. When Liv tells her brother that she thinks their father knew about this “Curse of Five,” the one Remy has been pushing down their throats, he doesn’t believe her.

Later, Caleb invites Remy over to chat. Olivia and Luke show up, too, and now, after what she’s witnessed, Olivia is on board with the whole supernatural situation. Caleb confesses that Miranda is still with them and that he can see her. Luke is quick to disregard Caleb. When Olivia suggests the idea of a seance, to contact Abby and find out what her father did and didn’t know, Luke is apprehensive but goes along with the shindig.

Olivia finds a magnetic board with magnetic letters in an old toy chest in the Carriage House, Caleb’s current residence, and spells out YES and NO — creating a makeshift Ouija board. They’re not sure what to do, but they go for it, and Olivia summons Abby’s spirit. Olivia asks Abby if her father knew about the curse on Ravenswood, and she responds with YES. Olivia then asks if the same person who killed everyone in the past is trying to kill them now. She responds with YES. The lights begin to flicker and things begin to shake. The chandelier above everyone’s heads begins to separate from the wall. It’s about to fall.

Just before the chandelier comes crashing down, Abby spells out FIVE PACT. Miranda, somehow, manifests enough energy to push her friends out of the way, helping them dodge death once again.

After the trouble and action, Olivia, Remy, and Luke can all see Miranda — though she’s certainly still dead.

Looking down from the house, Raymond asks Grunswald if Caleb is already having a party in his guest house. Grunswald says she doesn’t think so, that he just has a few guests over, perhaps “guests that he should not be inviting over.”

It’s clear that Raymond and her know something about the mysterious curse over this town and the mysterious five pact. Who knows . . . . Raymond might even be the one responsible for starting it all those years ago.
