Our favorite celebrities, Ryan Seacrest and Gwyneth Paltrow, are teaming up for a new web series. The show will be for AOL, and it will be a ten episode series that teams Paltrow up with her trainer, Tracy Anderson, for putting the spotlight on women who have managed to change their lives.
AOL wrote in a press release, “Gwyneth Paltrow and Tracy Anderson spend time with women who’ve overcome hardship, injury, and setbacks to triumph in the face of adversity. We’ll hear their inspiring stories firsthand, whether fighting back from a career-ending injury or transforming their lives and bodies through diet and exercise.”
You know, I admire that they’re trying to do with this TV Show. There needs to be more focus on positive role models for young women, and there just need to be more female oriented TV shows, period. However, does it have to be from GOOP and Ryan?!
First of all, I don’t get Gwyneth’s branding strategy. On the one hand, she associates with people like Beyonce and Chris Martin, Stella McCartney, Cameron Diaz, and Robert Downey Jr., who are all A-list music, film, and fashion stars. And now, she’s teaming up with Ryan Seacrest? Ryan Seacrest is a reality TV person. Gwyneth is a movie person. The two realms should not intersect. Sure, Gwyneth’s the type of person that tries to do it all, but she’s just not doing a good job with her brand right now. The people that she’s aiming GOOP towards are never going to watch this TV show. And the people that will watch this TV show definitely ain’t buying any of her $2000 ‘spring cleaning’ clothes.
