Supernatural RECAP 10/15/13: Season 9 Episode 2 “Devil May Care”

On last week’s show Dean was frantic after Sam collapsed and the doctor told Dean his brother would not make it. Desperate, Dean sent out an all points bulletin via prayer to every angel in the area, asking them to help his brother. In exchange, Dean would owe that angel a favor. Numerous angry angels raced to find and kill Dean, but one, Ezekiel, got to him first. Meanwhile, Sam fought for his life and had to face some familiar demons to do so. Castiel struggled to survive without powers. John Showalter directed the episode written by Jeremy Carver.

On tonight’s show Dean (Jensen Ackles) shocks Sam (Jared Padalecki) by popping open the trunk of the Impala and showing him that he has kidnapped Crowley (Mark Sheppard). Kevin (guest star Osric Chau) freaks out when he sees the King of Hell, but Sam and Dean convince him that they need Crowley to find the demons on Earth. Meanwhile, Abaddon (guest star Alaina Huffman) re-emerges and plans to take over Hell.

Dean and Sam talk about Castiel. Sam asks if he’s human and Dean says kind of. Castiel is just an angel without wings and powers. Sam asks him what all the “loose nukes” are gonna do and Dean says he doesn’t know. He asks him again what he wants to do about Crowley. Dean says he wants to kill him but not yet. Sam is surprised to hear that Crowley is alive and Dean shows him to Sam stowed in his trunk.

A man performs a blood spell in a bathroom and is knocked against the wall. A naked red-head rises from the tub and stares at him.

Dean walks into the house and Kevin tries to shoot him with an arrow but misses. He’s worried about all the crazy things going on and Dean tells him that the angels fell. He asks what that means and Dean says it’s not good.

Sam comes in and asks if it’s all good and Dean says yes. Sam walks a hood-covered Crowley into the house. They have Crowley tied to a chair and are asking him about all the demons that he knows about.

Sam says he saw him break down and knows there’s a human part of him. Crowley says there’s nothing they can do to him to make him talk that he hasn’t already done to himself. Dean says to enjoy and closes the doors to the room and everything goes dark.

Kevin is furious that Crowley is there and still alive but Dean says they need to relax and that they have work to do because it’s going to be a busy year. Abaddon (the naked red head that came from the blood spell) introduces herself to Crowley’s demons and says what they have become is pathetic and asks what the hell happened to hell. She offers to help them become more and better.

One of the demons isn’t convinced that Crowley is dead because a lot of the demons are afraid of him still. She says to prove it and Abaddon grabs her by the throat and sends her essence back to hell and says to tell hell that she’s coming.

Three servicemen get onto a bus and as soon as they sit down the three demons on the bus turn their eyes black. They leave their current bodies and get into the military men’s bodies. Abaddon turns around from the driver’s seat and says, “Much better.”

A very attractive brunette looks under the hood of her VW when a dirty van pulls up and the guy asks her if she needs any help. He offers her a lift into town and she grabs her bag and hops in. We see the driver sprout wicked sharp teeth. The van rocks and blood explodes out of the door. She gets out with a machete in her hand. The military demons grab her and say, “Nice hunting.” They bag her head and take her away.

Sam and Dean try to investigate the bus crime scene by flashing fake FBI badges. They are denied access and call Kevin and tell her to speak with the MP to verify their identity. She identifies him as a kid right away and threatens him. He hops on his computer while she issues mean threats. He shuts her down when he mentions Cabo and some naughty things she did there. He tells her if she doesn’t give them everything they need he’s going to release the naughty pictures to her CO. She asks how he got them and he says because he’s Kevin freaking Solo. Dean gets back on with him and tells him good job.

She lets them through and they hop on to investigate the bus. The MP that let them in brings them a tablet with security camera footage from outside the boss. They recognize Abaddon and Dean says he thought he Kentucky fried her and he says he did and they’re going to chop her head off again.

Abaddon’s demons torture Irv (a hunter) – a friend of the brothers – but aren’t getting results. She takes over and immediately gets better results.

Abbadon calls Kevin and says that she got the Winchester’s number but knows he’s not one of them. He says he’s nobody and she says to give them a message. Kevin calls Dean immediately after and tells him that they have Irv captive. He gives them coordinates to a location outside of Eugene, Oregon. They tell Kevin to research the demons hanging out with Abaddon – the Knights of Hell.

Sam and Dean realize Abaddon has set a trap but decide to go in guns blazing.

Crowley recalls Dean trying to cure him of his demonness and how he was almost human. Crowley remembers he just wanted to be loved. Kevin is near Crowley’s holding area looking for a folder and Crowley tries to provoke him to come inside by calling him weak. He finally opens the doors to glare at their captive.

Sam and Dean get to the abandoned town that was cleared out because of a poisonous chemical leak. They aren’t happy about it. They find the captive hunters. One introduces herself as Tracy and Irv says Abaddon is torturing hunters to get info on the Winchesters. They untie the hunters and get ready to go. Tracy isn’t impressed by them and Irv says she’s smart but has a mouth on her.

Kevin asks Crowley how to kill a Knight of Hell. Crowley tells Kevin that if he lets him go he can give him a beautiful woman. He denies it. Kevin accuses Crowley of torturing him and killing his mother. Crowley asks if he ever saw the body. Kevin loses it and punches Crowley in the face. Crowley tells him he can do better. He tells him to let it all out with a sadistic smile as Kevin starts to pummel him.

Dean goes through their weapons inventory for Irv and Tracy. Irv says the demons are coming. Irv asks what the plan is but Dean doesn’t say anything. The demons barge into the building they were in before only to find a recording of Dean talking saying “Come and get it you d*&cks!”.

The brothers head out to fight and Sam touches her arm. Tracy tells Sam to keep his hands off of her because he was the one who released Lucifer from his cage and that he celebrating by killing her parents. Dean says they have to move.

Crowley tells Kevin to let him go and he’ll give back his mother. Kevin says he’s dead and Crowley says he never lets anyone off that easy. He tries to convince him to walk out the doors with him. He says Sam and Dean are using him and will toss him aside when they’re done because there’s always another prophet waiting in the wings. He says even though he’s the one in chains, they’re both prisoners. Kevin looks thoughtful.

They decide to pick off the demons one by one. Dean tells Tracy that she needs to go after the right bad guys – the ones with black eyes – that are the real monsters. Irv tells Sam to give him the gun and for him and Dean and Tracy to leave him there to deal with it. He says that it’s all his fault because he’s responsible for Abaddon and what’s happening. He said he gave up all the information because he was lonely and fell for a pretty face.

Abaddon shoots Irv and goes after Sam. Tracy drills her full of bullets but the bad girl is in Kevlar. Dean throws holy water in her face and yells at Tracy to run and get more holy water and bullets. Abaddon looms over him and says “alone at last.”

Dean pulls out his dagger and goes at her. She grabs his arms and knocks it down to the ground. She asks if he misses her like she missed him. They struggle and she gets the upper hand.

Sam is fighting the other demons inside the bar and is having a hard time with them but he keeps on.

Abaddon says obedience is what she likes most about the Winchesters. She tells him that if he gives her Crowley she’ll break his neck quick and clean, but if he refuses she’ll take over his body and make him do unseemly evil things while he is forced to watch. She asks if he’s ever felt an infant’s blood on his chin or heard a girl scream for mercy.

Sam is still fighting the demons when his eyes turn glowing blue, he starts glowing and a shadow of his wings appears on the wall behind him. The bar explodes.

Abaddon asks if he brought an angel and Dean says, “What, you think we’d come here without some backup?” She lets him go and he goes to find Sam.

Dean walks into a shattered bar and asks if it’s Ezekiel there now. Ezekiel says yes because he thought Dean wanted to him to protect Sam while he is in his body. Dean is glad that he saved Sam. He says that Sam was knocked unconscious and won’t remember any of it. Dean asks what he’s supposed to tell him about what happened. He says that’s why he used the knife to kill them. Dean says that was smart.

Dean is upset about all the blood that is spilled that is on his hands because he wouldn’t let them board up hell. Ezekiel says that everything he does, he does because he knew it was the right thing and from the love in his heart. He says he knows what’s in Sam’s head. Dean says he’s not about the love thing. He tells Ezekiel he trusts him and hopes he’s one of the good guys. Ezekiel says he is but that’s what a bad guy would say as well.

Ezekiel tells him that he’s doing the right thing. Ezekiel leaves as Sam comes to up against the wall. He asks Dean what happened and he says he had to save his ass. He’s surprised that Dean took out three demons by himself and Dean brushes off the question and simply says that he’s awesome. Sam agrees that he is.

Tracy pulls their car up outside and Sam asks if she’s okay. She says yes. She tosses Dean the keys. She says she got everything but was late to the party. Dean says they need hamburgers and “Silkwood” showers (referencing the toxic town) and they’ll go from there.

Dean and Sam come in yelling for Kevin and run in a panic into Crowley’s room. He gives them two demons names and says he’s giving them what they wanted – information. He says those demons were underperformers anyway.

Crowley tells them to check on Kevin because he’s his new favorite toy. He says he can wind him up and watch him go.

Kevin is packing up to leave but Dean stops him. Kevin said that Crowley told him his mom is alive and he would give her to him if he let him go. Kevin says he didn’t let him go but he still needs to get away. Dean tells him that he knows he’s hurting but that all the angels and demons walking around the world would love to get their hands on a prophet and that this is the safest place for him by far.

He tells Kevin that they are his family. He says that if Sam and Dean being willing to die for him isn’t enough for him then he can go ahead and leave and he won’t stop him. Kevin starts to cry and walks away. Dean tells Sam that Kevin is sleeping it off.

Sam says that Tracy is right about him but Dean says he has helped more people than he has hurt. Sam asks if he’s ready for Abaddon, the fallen angels and all of it. Dean asks Sam how the engine’s running and Sam says he feels better than he has in a long time. He says he sees that things are good for him because he’s with friends and family and he’s feeling good. Dean says “never better” and drinks to him but doesn’t look terribly happy.
