Taylor Swift is erring on this side of delusional, isn’t she? In a new interview, Taylor reveals that even though she JUST got nominated for second Golden Globe, she’s already planning ahead for the Oscars. Taylor didn’t say that she expects or deserves to win an Oscar but she is thinking about attending.
She explains, “I would love to get to go the Oscars someday. That’s why I’m so happy to get to be a part of movies.” Well, guess who’s not winning the Golden Globe for that little comment? Actually, never mind. The Globes will probably give it to her just to pacify her bajillion fans from starting a riot against them. But seriously, there is a world of difference between the Oscars and the Golden Globes. Jennifer Love Hewitt got nominated for a Golden Globe. The freaking Tourist got nominated for a Golden Globe. Anyone can get nominated for a Golden Globe, provided they bring in a sizable demographic to the viewing audience.
Her comment also pretty blatantly suggests that the only reason she’s involved in movies is so that she can win an Oscar. For singing, unlikely. For acting, even less unlikely. Maybe she’ll get nominated for Best Song in another decade, once she’s proven her musical track record and the fact that her career isn’t propelled solely by her teenage fans. Until then, it’s truly a case of someone believing her own hype. Taylor is a big name in music, no doubt. But she’s not Adele, and she’s not going to be anytime soon. The Oscars are about quality, not quantity, and I think Taylor needs to remember that before she gets ahead of herself. It’s also revealing that Taylor thinks motion pictures are about winning Oscars – what a jejune attitude.
