The concluding episode of the season for ABC Families new drama, THE FOSTERS returns tonight with its summer season finale called, “I Do.” On tonight’s show Stef and Lena’s parents arrive amidst a frenzy of wedding-planning. Did you watch last week’s episode? We did and we recapped it here for you.
On last week’s show while Lena tried to process the extent of Mariana and Jesus’ lies, Stef and Mike headed to Ana’s to try and find Jesus. What they encountered landed someone in the hospital and changed the Foster family forever. While the family waited anxiously for news, tensions arose over the secrets the kids kept from Stef and Lena and even Brandon realized he was to blame for covering for the twins. Callie had a heart-to-heart with Brandon to help him understand the perspective of a foster child and Brandon learned how Callie’s mother died.
On tonight’s show Stef and Lena try to maintain calm when their parents descend on the Foster house for a very special celebration. Lena’s dad, Stewart (played by Stephen Collins), has agreed to officiate the ceremony while her mother Dana (Lorraine Toussaint) and Stef’s colorful, talkative mom Sharon (Annie Potts), attempt to keep things civil while disagreeing on floral arrangements. Sharon tries to strong-arm Frank (Sam McMurray) into attending. Stef avoids telling Lena she plans to return to work as soon as she is cleared. Meanwhile, when Callie’s case against Liam (Brandon Jones) boils down to her word against his, she must decide whether or not to lie in order to get some justice out of the situation. Callie and Jude get some news they’ve been hoping for, but Callie makes an emotional slip that could destroy any chance they finally have at happiness. Jim Hayman directed the episode written by series Executive Producers Bradley Bredeweg and Peter Paige.

I feel like I missed something because just last week Steffi was laying in a hospital bed shot with lung problems and now she’s walking around at home like nothing happened. The magic of television also took us from Calli talking to Brandon about Liam raping her to suddenly her moms talking to her about it. Now she has to decide if she wants to go through with a trial, The problem is, after sitting down with a prosecutor she is told that a jury will never believe that Liam raped her. However if she lies and says it was consensual then he will go to jail for sure for having sex with a minor. In other words they want her to lie to get a conviction.
Lena and Steffi are prepping for their wedding as the rest of the family pitches in. Both of their moms are in to help take care of details and Steffi’s mother goes to talk to her ex husband. She all but orders him to bet over the gay factor and attend his daughters wedding. When Steffi finally talks to Mike about the shooting she confesses that she saw their perp drop his gun. That’s a piece of info that would get Mike his job on the force back but cost Steffi hers. He demands she keep her mouth shut to protect the family.
Callie takes the stand to testify against Liam and refuses to lie. She explains that as much as she wants him in jail she won’t lie to get him there and that all she has is her truth. She tells the judge that Liam raped her and of course he walks.
Lena keeps over hearing Steff grumbling about the wedding and finally gets upset because she thinks that she doesn’t want to marry her. Steffi works out some of her inner demons and comes home to reassure Lena that she absolutely does want to marry. Before the ceremony they sit Callie and Jude down to tell them they would like to adopt them. Of course this news thrills everyone.
Everyone is ready for the wedding ceremony and Callie and Brandon share a moment outside alone that turns into a heated make out session, until Jude catches them. He blames Callie for ruining things and she reassures him that the kiss will never happen a second time. Lena and Steff swap vows and everyone is thrilled of course.
The episode ends with Callie packing up and leaving so that she won’t cause Jude any problems. Wyatt is leaving town for Indiana and Callie hitches a ride with him.
