The Originals RECAP 10/3/13: Season 1 Premiere "Always and Forever"

We’re being treated to a night full of vampires and supernatural drama with the premieres of both The Vampire Diaries and the season 1 premiere of The Originals, titled “Always and Forever.” We’re super excited to dive into the land of New Orleans, where The Originals — the villains we grew to love in The Vampire Diaries series — will be forced to deal with unnatural evils of their own in the city they called their “kingdom” so many years ago.

Tonight’s brief episode summary: The Originals Season Premiere 2013 “Always and Forever” – Klaus Mikaelson (Joseph Morgan), the original vampire-werewolf hybrid, has returned to the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans – the city his family helped build 300 years ago. Determined to help his brother, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) leaves their sister Rebekah (Claire Holt) behind and follows Klaus. Elijah learns that the beautiful and rebellious werewolf Hayley (Phoebe Tonkin) – Klaus’ onetime flame – has fallen into the hands of a powerful witch named Sophie Deveraux (Daniella Pineda).

When Sophie reveals some life-changing news, Elijah realizes that the Original family may have been given a second chance at humanity and redemption. Klaus, however, is more intrigued by his recent unexpected reunion with his former protégé, Marcel (Charles Michael Davis), a charismatic but diabolical vampire who now has total control over the supernatural inhabitants of New Orleans. Klaus vows to reclaim what was once his – the power, the city and his family. The series also stars Leah Pipes as Cami and Danielle Campbell as Davina. Chris Grismer directed the episode written by executive producer Julie Plec and co-executive producer Michael Narducci

We hope you stop by for this epic show! Klause, Rebekah, and Elijah have been some of our most favorite villains on TV, and we’re excited to see how this season further explores their complexities and character quirks. Who’ll find love? 300 years ago on the Mississippi two men watch a ship in the water. They go out to explore it. They break in and find the ship deserted and with their cronies decide they can take whatever they want. They see a coffin with a fine gold seal and open it up. Then they hear a noise and someone disappears, then another and another. The man with the lamp hears a woman say hello. She asks her brother if she can eat him. Elijah says no.

He tells the man he will not remember anything. He tells him to transport their belongings onshore. Rebekah introduces them all including her “half brother” Niklaus who tosses down a body. They ask where they are and he tells him they are in the colony of New Orleans.

In modern day New Orleans the bartender chats with Elijah and he tells her he used to live there. He says it felt like almost a 100 years ago. He says he’s there to find his troublesome brother who thinks someone is plotting against him. He asks her if she knows Jane Ann Devereaux. She says she knows someone who might.

A woman is hosting a ghost tour. She brings them to a witches shop. Elijah is following her and she asks if he is going to keep following her. He’s surprised that she knows exactly who he is. He says he needs Jane Anne and she says he’s too late. She takes him instead to Jane’s sister Sophie.

There’s a candlelight vigil being held around Jane Anne’s body. Sophie has to take her body and inter it in the cemetery so her soul can be at rest. He asks if Niklaus killed her and she said no – she was caught doing magic. She tells him Marcel killed her and rules the town and keeps the witches down. She begs him not to reveal himself. Says he will get them all killed.

Marcel and his gang show up and threaten Sophie and tell her she has to leave her sister’s body there as a warning. He wants to know why Niklaus showed up asking about Jane Anne. She tells him she doesn’t know why. The vampires take her sister’s body until she remembers why Klaus is there.

Elijah calls Rebekah and tells her that he can’t find Klaus and that Marcel is running a crazy tribe and holding witches down. She doesn’t care because she hates Klaus. Elijah tells her that they have family duty and she calls take backs. He reminds her that she stuck with Klaus when their father ran them out of New Orleans. She reminds him that Klaus daggered them.

Elijah says the witches lured Klaus there for help and he’s determined to find out what’s going on. Sophie cried over a shrine of candles and says that Jane got her into it and needs to give her the strength to finish it. A door slams. Someone leaps down beside her. It’s two vampires who accuse her of doing magic. She says she’s praying to her sister’s dead spirit.

They threaten her. One grabs her but then he’s gone and then his head is dropped back down. Then the other one is staked. Nice work Elijah. He introduces himself to her and asks if she knows who he is. She says yes and he asks what business she has with his brother.

Elijah follows Sophie and she steps onto sacred ground. She tells him he has to be invited in and then does so. She says they can talk freely there. He asks why her sister wanted Klaus. She says Jane Anne met a werewolf who talked about Klaus and they had a special connection. The werewolf girl is pregnant and Klaus is the dad. Elijah says it’s impossible and she says nothing is when it comes to Klaus. She calls for them to bring her out and there’s Hayley. She asks who the hell he is.

Elijah asks for a moment with her. He asks if they are holding her against her will. She says they lured her out there and ran a lot of witchy tests on her. She doesn’t know how Klaus could impregnate her. Elijah tells her to open her mind and he’ll show her. He explains how they used to all be human and that his mom dabbled in the dark arts.

He says that one night their brother was killed by a werewolf. Their father told the mother to command the dark forces to protect them. That’s how they became vampires and blood thirsty. Klaus was the worst of them all. After Klaus drank he changed and their father went nuts. He called him an abomination. He had been the result of an affair between their mother and a werewolf. Their dad made their mother cast a spell that would keep his werewolf down.

Hayley tells him that their dad was a dick. She introduces herself and says she knows their story in modern times and says that Klaus is a psycho and she can’t believe she slept with him. He tells her that their Dad stalked them for centuries. He tells her that Klaus broke the spell holding back his werewolf persona and then killed their dad. He wonders if the baby would help Klaus finally be happy.

The witches come in and tell them they need Klaus to run Marcel out of town because he’ll never see the betrayal coming since he sired him. Sophie tells him that Marcel will kill the hybrid baby because he already ran all the werewolves out of town but if helps them they won’t tell Marcel about the baby. Elijah says that sounds like a threat and say he has his work cut out for him.

Klaus watches a street fest from on high. He tells Elijah hello and that he’s not welcome. Klaus tells him he’s not going anywhere until he finds out who is conspiring against him. Elijah says he already found out. Klaus tells the witches that it’s not possible. Sophie says Jane Anne sacrificed her life to confirm that the baby belongs to the hybrid. Sophie says if they don’t help her she will kill Hayley and the baby. Elijah says he’ll kill Klaus straight away but she says that there is a plan that must be followed.

Klaus says he won’t be handled and won’t listen to lies. He starts to storm out when Elijah calls him back and tells him to listen. Klaus looks at Hayley and listens closely – he can hear the baby’s heartbeat! He glares at Hayley and then turns back to the witches. He tells them to kill her and the baby – what does he care. He walks away.

Elijah tells the witches not to touch her – he says he’ll fix it. He goes after Klaus who tells him it’s a trick. Elijah says it’s a gift – a chance for their family to start over. He says they all have always wanted family. Klaus says he won’t be manipulated – he says he’ll kill them all. Elijah says so what. He asks Klaus if it’s so important that everyone trembles at his name. Klaus asks what power the baby will bring him and Elijah says that family is power and they are the original family and they will be connected forever.

Elijah says he can barely even recognize his brother in the thing he’s become. Elijah says he will stay and help him there and they can build a new home their together. He tells him to save the girl and his child. Klaus says no and walks away!

The other witches are mad at Sophie for bringing in more vampires. They tell her they can’t control the hybrid. Elijah is there and says even he can’t control him. He asks her what will prevent Klaus from killing them all. Sophie cuts her hand and it cuts Hayley. Anything that happens to Sophie will happen to Hayley. She tells Elijah that even if Klaus doesn’t care about the baby she knows Elijah does. He asks if she dares threaten an original. She tells him he has until midnight to get Klaus on board.

Klaus shows up at Marcel’s and asks him what’s going on with the witches. Marcel tells him that what’s going on with the witches in his town is his business. Klaus tells him that when he left 100 years ago, Marcel was barely out of chains. Everyone stops to listen and Marcel says he ran off the werewolves and shut down the witches and the vampires run the town. He says Klaus can visit but the town is his. Klaus asks what happens if someone breaks his rules and Marcel says they die. He tells Klaus to show him some respect.

Klaus digs in and bites one of his vampires. He tells him that his buddy will be dead by the weekend and that he just broke one of Marcel’s rules. He tells him he cannot be killed so there’s nothing Marcel can do about it. Elijah watches in disgust.

He calls Rebekah to tell her how out of control Klaus is. She tells him to come home and leave Klaus there. He says that he was so close when he heard the baby’s heartbeat but then his anger turned him against it. Elijah says he has to get the girl and the baby.

Marcel is on the phone telling someone to find Klaus and that he can take care of him. Elijah asks if that’s so. Marcel calls Elijah by name and tells him seeing him is a surprise. Elijah tells him they need to talk.

Marcel tells him to talk. Elijah tells him he’s grown cocky. Marcel says it’s them that are cocky. Elijah asks how the witches are controlled and Marcel won’t tell him. He says that Klaus came to town and went nuts. Elijah tells Marcel that the vamp who’s dying can be cured with Klaus’ blood. He tells Marcel to give back Jane Anne’s body so she can be put to rest. He asks what Elijah’s business is with the witches and Elijah says that’s his business.

It’s midnight and the witches ask her if she’s going to kill herself. They say that Klaus doesn’t care about the baby. Elijah walks up and says he does. He has her sister’s body. He says he will get Klaus in line but he needs more time. Sophie agrees.

Klaus is boozing and hears Elijah come in. He tells him to leave him alone. He says the child and Hayley are probably already dead. Elijah gives Klaus a serious ass kicking and tells him he is not walking away from his child. Elijah asks if he needs to beat him like their father used to so he can see his humanity.

Klaus calls him a coward and Elijah asks him if the bigger coward is the one who is trying to make a family again or the one who would run away from it all. He tells him if he needs to beat some caring into him he will. He takes a metal pole to him but Klaus grabs it and knocks his big brother down. He tells Elijah that he’s pathetic.

Klaus tells him he hasn’t cared for centuries. Elijah says he has failed him and should have struck their father dead the first time he laid a hand on Klaus centuries ago. He says they are family forever. Klaus tells him he’s a sentimental fool. Elijah says perhaps and says he’s lasted a long time in spite of it. Klaus looks thoughtful.

Klaus sits as Elijah comes to join him. Elijah’s narrative says the bond of family gives us an immeasurable bond of power but we must accept what comes with it. He texts Rebekah. She doesn’t look happy. Elijah says we can’t waiver from that bond even when we are tested because without it we are nothing.

Sophie puts her sister to rest.

Klaus says Marcel has everything he ever wanted – power, loyalty, family. He says he made him in his image and he bettered him. He says he wants to be king. Elijah asks if that’s all the child means to him – grab for power? Elijah says the child can offer Klaus the one thing he’s never believed he had – the unconditional love of family. He asks what if Sophie is lying.

Hayley is uncovering furniture and coughing as Elijah comes in. She says it’s ancient and he says it’s a sanctuary. He says she needs a home and to be safe. He asks how she feels. She says about having a miracle baby after a one night stand with a psycho. He says no – about being a mother. She tells him she was abandoned as a baby and kicked out by her foster family when she turned wolf. She says she doesn’t know that that means.

Elijah tells her he will always protect her. Klaus turns up to mock his brother. He says he cured Marcel’s vamp. Klaus doesn’t trust the witches and Elijah agrees they aren’t being honest about why they don’t want Marcel killed yet.

Marcel has his own witch (I think) monitoring the witches to make sure they’re not up to any magic. She tells Marcel she’s worried about the originals. He tells her with her power they don’t stand a chance.

Elijah tells him that Marcel has a small army of vampires they can use to destroy him from the inside. Klaus asks if Rebekah is coming and say she’s been daggered and shoved in a box one too many times. He says he hopes she stays far away. He realizes a weakness that Marcel could exploit – you. He stabs Elijah and tells him there is no power in love and mercy makes you weak. He says if he’s going to win the war he has to do it alone! Elijah collapses!
