On last week’s premiere episode Klaus Mikaelson, the original vampire-werewolf hybrid, had returned to the supernatural melting pot that is the French Quarter of New Orleans – the city his family helped build 300 years ago. Determined to help his brother, Elijah left their sister Rebekah behind and followed Klaus. Elijah learned that the beautiful and rebellious werewolf Hayley – Klaus’ onetime flame – had fallen into the hands of a powerful witch named Sophie Deveraux. When Sophie revealed some life-changing news, Elijah realized that the Original family may have been given a second chance at humanity and redemption.  Did you watch last week’s premiere episode?  We did and we recapped it right here for you. Marcel is narrating saying that many people who come to New Orleans are just here to party but some come for something darker. These are the ones he brings to his home to party. You see humans coming into a party aptly titled Abbatoir (slaughterhouse). The vamps attack at midnight and begin openly feeding on the humans. Marcel tells Klaus that the vampires under him are working toward daylight rings. Klaus says it’s quite an operation but asks how they deal with digging all those graves.

Marcel explains (as we see) that the vamps feed then feed their victims a little vampire blood to heal them and wipe their memory and send them on their way. One of Marcel’s men approaches and tells him that six of their men were killed at a bar outside of town.

Rebekah is driving and wiping blood off her cheek. Hmm. Guess we know who killed Marcel’s guys. Rebekah leaves Elijah a message saying that she’s worried about being in New Orleans but that she’s there.

She walks in the house and finds Hayley and assumes she is the maid and tells her to get her luggage. Then she realizes that she’s the wolf chic Klaus knocked up. All Rebekah wants to know is where Elijah is. Hayley says Elijah made a lot of promise about them being family and protecting her and then disappeared.

Rebekah assumes that Klaus has done something bad and calls out for him. Klaus comes out and tells her about Marcel’s rule of not killing his vampires. She tells him they were rude and asking for it and we see a flashback of her taking them all out. She asks again here Elijah is and he tells her to look around and that he trusts she remembers the house.

Rebekah says she remembers everything as it goes to a flashback where we see that she’s in love with the governor’s son – Emile. Rebekah asks Elijah and Klaus if she can turn him into a vampire because she loves him. They tell her no and Elijah says that the governor is covering up their activities but won’t take kindly to them turning his son. She pleads again and Klaus throws him over the banister two stories down killing him. Rebekah is distraught.

Back in the now, Klaus tells her that finding Elijah didn’t make his to-do list today and that he’s trying to find out how Marcel got power over the Quarter because he wants to take it for himself. Rebekah shows Hayley the coffins that Klaus keeps the daggered siblings in and explains how he operates. Rebekah welcomes her to the family sarcastically and asks why she hasn’t left yet. Hayley tells her about her link to Sophie and that the witches will kill her if she leaves New Orleans. Rebekah says she’s leaving as soon as she finds Elijah and that Hayley should find a way to break the spell and take a hike.

Sophie is cleaning the bar where she works as she hears the doors close – but no one is around. She yells out to Marcel saying that she had nothing to do with the attack on his guys last night. Rebekah comes out and grabs Sophie’s arm. She asks Sophie if she knows who she is and she does. Rebekah tells her that she’s there trying to find out what happened to Elijah.

Sophie tells her that she can’t use her magic because it’s a death sentences and that Marcel has a way of telling when and where a witch uses magic. Rebekah asks her why the witches haven’t left and she tells her that it’s because they practice ancestral magic which requires them to be near their family graveyard. Rebekah asks why they think Elijah can turn Klaus to their cause against Marcel. Sophie misunderstands and Rebekah tells her that it’s more complicated than they think because Klaus didn’t just sire Marcel, but that Marcel was like a son to him.

Flashback to when Klaus met Marcel. Marcel was a young slave being whipped by a cruel overseer but he remains defiant and even throws a rock at him. Klaus steps in to talk to him and asks his name – he says he has none and Klaus give him a powerful name – Marcelus – and takes him away from his life of slavery and makes him one of their family.

Marcel is at a bar drinking when Klaus joins him saying this is a far cry from last night’s party. He notices Marcel pining over the blonde and says he should be eating her instead. The blonde goes to leave and Klaus steps up to her and asks what she’s studying. She says abnormal psychology. Klaus brings her over to the table to diagnose why Marcel is pining over a girl that he sees fit to be a queen for a king. Klaus asks how it works and she says to just to be a nice guy. She goes to walk out and Marcel asks her to meet him back at that bar at nine that evening. She says she’ll take it under consideration.

Hayley buys wolfsbane from a witch who warns her it’s poisonous. She says she’s just trying to kill a little wolf. The woman glances at her stomach and assumes it’s a pregnancy from a wolf. The woman tells her that it’s an ugly town for wolves and that she’s doing the right thing. Hayley leaves and the girl calls someone and says if she wants points to tell Marcel that there’s a wolf in the quarter.

Marcel brings Klaus to a guy and girl that are tied up in the back of a van. He tells them they have been turned and either they drink blood and are immortal or will die. Marcel tosses a coin at them and says that whoever takes the coin will live forever. The girl grabs it and then tells her friend he would have done the same to her. Marcel breaks her neck and zips her up into a body bag and tells his henchman to let her die in cold storage. He tells Klaus that he doesn’t like people who betray their friends.

Flashback to Klaus training young Marcel how to fight. We see young Marcel fencing. He says he’s going to marry the woman he’s dueling someday and Rebekah takes off her mask and says that she would never marry someone who couldn’t beat her in a duel. We then see Marcel as an adult dueling Rebekah again. They finish and he steps in to kiss her. Klaus walks in and he steps back awkwardly.

Back to now Rebekah is watching the street from a balcony when Marcel appears in front of her and asks if she’s there to teach him another lesson. Marcel says the last time he saw her, the city was burning and the siblings were running from their murderous father. Marcel asks why she’s there and she tells him that she’s worried about Klaus.

Flashback to Marcel asking Klaus if he can be with Rebekah. He tells him that he cares for her but hasn’t done anything about it. Klaus says that men come and go with Rebekah but that he is the constant. Marcel begs to be turned and Klaus says he’ll turn him when he’s ready but if he touches Rebekah he will never turn him.

In the now, Rebekah tells Marcel she knows he’s worried about Klaus. She says that if she finds out he hurt Elijah then he doesn’t need to worry about Klaus because she’ll kill him herself.

Marcel walks into a bar and Klaus is there. Marcel asks why he didn’t tell him Rebekah was back in town. Klaus says he thought it would be a nice surprise. Marcel gets a call and Klaus eavesdrops and hears about the werewolf they’ve spotted. Marcel tells his mystery caller to kill the wolf and bring him its head.

Marcel tells him that he doesn’t want to be in the middle of Michaelson family drama and that Klaus is only there as his guest. He says Klaus has to keep Rebekah in line and there won’t be any issues. Klaus says he has a better chance of draining the Mississippi with a straw.

Hayley is about to drink the wolfsbane but hesitates. Suddenly there’s a vampire in front of her obviously ready to do her harm. She throws the wolfsbane in his faces saying that she’s tired of vampires telling her what to do. He screams and claws at his face and Hayley turns to run but there are two more. She’s frightened. But then one of them goes down with a broken neck and the other collapses and we see Rebekah holding his heart in her hand saying that’s no way to treat a pregnant lady.

At their house, Klaus shows up and chews Hayley out saying this is why he told her not to leave the house because she’s leaving a trail of bodies to his door. Rebekah yells at him that Elijah made a deal for the child’s life and that he hasn’t done anything too support the plan.

Klaus tells (as we see in a flashback) that the two new vamps were ones he planted to be spies on Marcel’s crew and the blond from the bar is also under Klaus’ control. He has two spies ready to tell him everything about where Marcel goes and what he does.

Klaus asks Hayley what she was doing in the French Quarter in the first place. She tells him that she was buying poison to kill his baby. He chokes her up against the wall and Rebekah pushes him off and screams that he can’t do that to her because she’s pregnant. She tells him it’s okay for him to care and want something. She says it’s all she and Elijah have ever wanted for him.

Tears form in Klaus’ eyes. Klaus tells Rebekah that he gave Elijah to Marcel because Marcel was nervous about having more than one original in town. Marcel’s crew was getting antsy and Klaus gave him a peace offering to gain his trust so he can tear down his empire from the inside. Klaus says he wants to keep his promise to Elijah and let the baby be born and it’s the only way he knows how to do it. He says if she doesn’t like it, there’s the door and to see if he cares.

Rebekah is sitting on the porch when Hayley sits down next to her. Hayley tells her they don’t know each other very well but she wants to thank her for what she did to help her. Hayley tells her she can tell that she really cares about Klaus. Rebekah tells her that when you’ve been with someone for a thousand years it’s hard to give them up. She also tells her that Klaus killed every boyfriend she ever had.

She says no one else was ever good enough for his little sister until someone was. Flashback to Marcel and Rebekah in the training room. Marcel kisses her and she warns him that Klaus will kill him but he says he’ll die smiling. Klaus walks in and is about to kill him when Rebekah says he can’t kill Marcel because he raised him and cares about him. He says she’s right and then he daggers her saying that she needs a lesson in what he can take from her and what she can’t take from him.

Back in the now, Hayley pulls out two daggers that she found under Rebekah’s coffin and says that if these are all that are keeping her from finding Elijah then she should take them. Rebekah takes them and heads out.

Marcel is with the blonde asking what made her come tonight. Rebekah shows up and he introduces her to Cammie but all she wants to know is where Elijah is. She tells him she knows he’s lying and she throws him up against the wall and says she’ll kill him. He says she won’t and she says perhaps she’s right. Rebekah threatens Cammie instead and Marcel relents and says he’ll take her to him. Marcels compels Cammie and tells her to forget what happened and that he’ll make it up to her.

Marcel brings Rebekah to a house and she can see Elijah’s coffin but can’t enter. She tells him to invite her in and he says it’s up to the lady of the house. Davina invites her in. She opens the coffin and starts to take out the dagger but Davina tells her she shouldn’t do that. She asks if Rebekah is old and Marcel tells her she’s an original and that she can’t be killed.

Marcel tells Davina she hasn’t been nice to him today. Davina says it’s time for Rebekah to leave then throws her up against the ceiling a couple of times and then out of the window.

Flashback to Rebekah waking up in her bed and Klaus says it’s about time. He said he wanted to see her face. She thinks she’s been daggered for a week but Klaus tells her that she’s been daggered for 52 years. He also tells her that Marcel gave her up in exchange for him turning him into a vampire. Rebekah says Marcel would never have done that to her. Marcel walks in and she can see that he is an immortal and hasn’t aged a day.

In the present, Rebekah wakes up on a bed and sees Marcel looking at her. He tells her that what was once hers and her brother’s is now his and to never touch Cammie again. He threatens her and leaves.

Klaus walks into Hayley’s room while she is still asleep. He pulls the wolfsbane out of her purse and checks the bottle and sniffs it. She wakes and tells him she didn’t use it. She tells him she’s barely able to sleep and complains of the heat.

Klaus asks her what stopped her from ending the pregnancy and freeing herself from him. She says that when she was fighting the vampires she realized that it was more than just for her own safety and when push came to shove she wouldn’t let anyone hurt their child because her parents gave her up. Klaus tells her that they are alike because they’re both castoffs forced to fight when they are pushed into a corner and that it’s time to fight.

Hayley says that Rebekah told her that Marcel and he used to love each other like family. Klaus says that he made Marcel everything he was and raised him. He reveals that they thought Marcel had died in the fire that their father started when he was trying to kill him. They left town assuming he was dead.

But now after all this time Klaus found out that Marcel had survived and thrived and never tried to find them. Marcel took everything from them and is sleeping in their beds and using their home. Klaus wants it all back.

Rebekah comes in and tells Klaus that Cammie is the key because Marcel cares for her and she tells him about Davina and says she’s more powerful than a regular witch – the most powerful being she’s ever felt. She’s furious that this strong witch has Elijah because of Klaus. She tells him that Davina is young – about 16 – and he’s keeping her – his most powerful weapon with him.

He asks where Davina is and Rebekah realizes that she doesn’t know because Davina wiped her memory. She yells at him saying that he gave Elijah to the most powerful force they’ve ever faced and that their home is worthless without family. She says she’s going to do whatever it takes to get Elijah back and Klaus agrees.

Marcel is talking with Davina about the Originals. She says they don’t belong here but Marcel says he thinks they are here to stay and it will be hard to convince them to go. He tells her she needs to figure out how to kill an original!!
