Emotions were all over the place during part 2 of the Real Housewives of New Jersey season 5 reunion. There were explosions and tears, hurt feelings and praise. It was dizzying.

Caroline Manzo demonstrated her multiple personalities. The Franklin Lakes Butinsky sat there calm and smiling. When someone barely hit a nerve she took them to task. Andy Cohen read a viewer’s question directed at Caroline. It was the mafia rumors surrounding her husband’s family. She immediately went into a tirade, telling Andy off. Caroline said the family don’t know the details of why Tiny Manzo was killed and don’t want them. She described what it was like to be woken by the police at 4:30am on her birthday and given the news of her then fiancée’s father’s death. Tiny was found in the trunk of his car, naked with his hands and feet bound. He took several shots to his abdomen. It’s been reported Tiny was a mob boss. There are also contrary reports that he was not in the mafia but angered them with one of his business ventures.

Caroline answered this question during the season 1 reunion. She just quickly said there was no mafia connection in her family and didn’t say more. Andy also didn’t push the issue. I think what set Caroline off is the renewed interest in Tiny’s death. When the news broke that Teresa and Juicy Joe Giudice were indicted on 39 counts of fraud there was speculation Caroline’s mind would immediately go to Tiny’s death. Its clear Caroline was pushed to the limit. She ended her tirade asking Andy if he understood what she said. Andy was very taken aback. He looked upset and said he finally gets it.

Caroline was a participant in the other blow up that night. Teresa said she was hurt when Caroline called her superficial. The Red Haired Dragon said she was over it and wanted to drop the issue. Teresa could not let it go. She felt the need to continue explaining her feelings. Caroline went into defense mode. She said Teresa discounted all the work they did making their relationship better with this one sentence. Teresa has a hard time communicating. She isn’t sure when to stop talking and what words to say. Dr V pointed this out in part one of the reunion. She told Teresa what to say to Caroline to apologize because she wasn’t getting it together. Teresa later explained growing up with Italian parents they were taught they would not always hear I love you. The parents were to be respected and could be stern. This could be part of her communication problem. Teresa said she decided to break the cycle. She tells her parents she loves them all the time. Teresa showers her 4 daughters with I love you daily.

There were exchanges between Teresa and the rest of the cast where emotions ran high. Tre felt her family joined the show to take her down. Her brother, Poison Joe Gorga, said he joined the show to be closer to her. If you believe that I have a bridge I want to sell you. Kathy Wakilie chimed in to say the family tried to reassure Tre they had no intentions of hurting her when they joined the show. Teresa mentioned not wanting the show to pull their family apart. She cited the estranged relationship of Caroline and her sister Dina Manzo. The sister’s relationship became strained and Dina quit the show mid way through season two. Caroline and Dina are still not talking. Dina is also not talking to her brother, Chris Laurita.

On the other end of the emotional spectrum was the discussion of Tre and Juicy’s fraud indictment. Everyone was visibly upset for them. Everyone reached out Juicy and Tre. Caroline actually put her dukes down to say it is an awful situation. She said it with tears in her eyes. Teresa was asked about why she looks like she doesn’t have a care in the world. She said she has to be strong for her family or else they will fall apart. She said she has a lot of sleepless nights and cries herself to sleep. Andy asked the Gorgas if they would care for the Giudice girls if Tre and Joe went to jail. Mel said if asked the answer is yes.

These people will never fully make up. They mix together like oil and water. Kathy made the observation that Teresa re-acts and doesn’t think about the other person’s feelings. Tre isn’t getting it. But it takes two to tango. Everyone assumed the worst about Teresa, not wanting to hear her side of the story. Teresa admitted she listened to the wrong people and should have stood up for her sister in law. Melissa won’t let the stripper gate and cheating scandal go. She is convinced Tre is the instigator but has never produced evidence. Penny Drossos said she has been talking about Melissa, but fingered Tre as her information source. Jan DeDolce confronted Melissa. She wanted Mel to admit she met up with an ex-boyfriend. Mel and Poison didn’t want to consider that Tre was not as guilty as they thought.

Andy read a viewer question saying Poison is harder on his sister than Juicy. Poison’s explanation is Teresa was behind the hurt he and his wife experienced the last two years. Juicy would interject but then move on.

Reunions make matters worse. Andy asks questions to set the record straight and it brings up old fights. The conversation is very personal. What are they supposed to say? They have to answer the questions. It’s human nature to be hurt all over again. On the other hand, some reunions have a hot mess factor that you can’t help but watch. In the season two reunion Teresa jumped off the couch and confronted Danielle Staub. Andy told her to sit down. Teresa threw Andy through the air and he landed in his chair. Teresa proceeded to get in Danielle’s face, telling her to not mention her family. In the same reunion Danielle demonstrated with a mannequin head how Jacqueline Laurita’s daughter Ashley Holmes pulled out her extensions. I’m still laughing about it!!
