Stefan and Damon were both concerned about Elena’s state of mind and were determined to do what was best for her, but she made it clear that helping her will be difficult.  Damon was not sure how to react when Stefan revealed his unexpected plan for the future. Bonnie – free of Silas’ spell and back to being herself – is at Jeremy’s grave regretting the last words they shared. She’s crying and sees Jeremy. He tells her to wake up and open her eyes – he screams at her until she does. She wakes up on her sofa which is engulfed in flames. As she comes to and gains control, the flames go out, but she’s clearly shaken.

Damon and Stefan are tossing the pigskin and counting how many days it’s been since Elena took a life. They plot how to get her to throw her humanity switch back on. Stefan says they can always lock her back up if trying the emotional route doesn’t work. Damon isn’t sure that Stefan’s motives are pure – but he takes his plan at face value anyway.

Rebekah begs Elijah for the cure while Klaus mocks her. Elijah invites him to make his case and Klaus warns them of Silas’ power and how he can masquerade as anyone. He tells them he will torment him until he gets the cure. Elijah is unmoved and says he thinks Rebekah should have the cure. Klaus is angry because his brother has relegated him to a life of torture. Klaus tells Rebekah that when she’s sick and dying and begging him for blood, he will laugh in her face.

Elijah tells Rebekah he wants her to show him she’ll make good use of the cure. He tells her to live today as a human with no vampire tricks, no compulsion or any shortcuts – he says if she can live out the day like a human and still wants the cure, he will give it to her.
Elena and Rebekah head into school and Elena mocks her but finally promises that she’ll help her pass the test so that she can get the cure and Stefan and Damon won’t be able to use it on her.

Bonnie and Caroline are trying on formal dresses and Bonnie tells her about the recurring Jeremy dreams. She’s worried that she can’t control her magic without him. Caroline, Matt and Bonnie are going as a friend date together and the girls are thrilled.

Elena comes in and gets snotty with Bonnie and Caroline who are less than pleased with no-humanity Elena. Caroline leaves her gorgeous red gown to be pressed and says she’ll pick it up later. But she won’t get to since Elena made off with it and is wearing it to prom herself.

Damon and Stefan show up to escort Elena to prom against her will. Damon forces a corsage on her and compliments her gown. She tells them smugly that she stole it and flounces into the limousine. Damon and Stefan share a frustrated eye roll – and BTWs those two look super sexy in their prom gear. A vampire double date – yummy!!

Caroline comes in calling for Klaus but he’s brooding in front of the fire and acts apathetic. She tells him the vervaine is out of the Mystic Falls water supply because Elena compelled the sales clerk and stole her dress. She tells Klaus that prom is important to her and that she needs a prom dress. She pleads with him to break into his family treasure trove and find her a gown worthy of a princess. He relents and smiles – Caroline always gets to him.

At prom, there are screens of photos of all the seniors. Elena, Damon and Stefan see one of Elena and Jeremy their mom had taken on their first day of school. They try to get her reminiscing, but she blows it off and walks into the prom, not giving a damn about her dead brother. The vamp brothers are not pleased.

Damon takes away Elena’s flask and tells her she’s too young. She tells him he’s too old and it’s creepy. He refers to himself as her date and she objects so he says instead that he’s her boyfriend. She makes a face and he asks her if she’s going to deny that he’s her boyfriend. Elena tells him to give up on trying to stir feelings and it’s ironic since he’s the one who asked her to turn off her humanity.
She tells him she only said she loved him because she was sired to him and didn’t mean a word of it and tells him to get over it. Bonnie and Matt appeal to Elena to come back to them. Elena tells Matt he would have turned off his emotions after Vicki died if he could have so he has no room to talk. And she tells Bonnie she should have brought Jeremy back to her, but instead she turned out to be a crazy person brainwashed by Shane. She tells Bonnie she’s to blame for what happened to her.

Bonnie is devastated and tells Matt that Caroline was right and Elena’s gone. She heads out for some fresh air and sees a photo of she and Jeremy together at a school dance. Then she sees him in a tux outside in person. She asks if it’s real and he asks does it matter. She takes his hand and they dance.

Stefan grabs Elena for a dance and she tells him to get lost or she’ll bite. He insists they dance and she gives in.

Caroline and Matt chat and she reveals she had to come stag because she couldn’t compel a date. She asks Matt if he thinks she would make a good human. He tells her he’s never seen her do anything remotely good and tells her the answer is no.

As Stefan and Elena dance, he asks her if she’s there just to help Rebekah get the cure. She tells him that’s it and it’s not a cry for help. She tells him she can show him what a real cry for help sounds like. He holds her close and asks her if she feels nothing in his arms and she insists she doesn’t. He intertwines their fingers and asks again. She says there’s nothing. He dips her and asks again if her heart refuses to remember. She asks him what heart and walks away.

Both brothers are rebuffed! Elena is one bad ass bitch without an ounce of humanity!

Caroline swishes into prom in a spectacular dress. Elena saunters up and asks her how she looks in her dress. Caroline starts to snap at her, calling her a backstabbing bitch, but Stefan swoops in and puts an end to it. Carolina compliments her and Stefan sweeps her off to dance. She tells him Klaus gave her the dress and he tells her she’s got the original wrapped around her little finger.
Stefan confesses he’s struggling to get past his feelings for Elena. She tells him she thinks one day he’ll fall in love with someone new and will be able to move on.

Rebekah asks April to help her win prom queen and she refuses and tells her that she can’t compel her because she’s on vervaine. Rebekah insists she wasn’t going to. Then Elena swoops in and takes April by the throat and tells her she’ll kill her if she doesn’t give Rebekah the crown. Rebekah acts shocked and Elena tells her it was what she was going to do anyway. Rebekah insists she wasn’t and Elena reminds her how she tortured her into telling her about the cure and ruined her relationship with Stefan and then trapped them with a werewolf.

She tells Rebekah she’s a bad person and isn’t going to win the cure by being herself. She tells her to shut up and let her take care of it.

Jeremy and Bonnie are dancing and he asks if she misses him. She tells him she does and he asks if she wants it to be real. He tells her that her magic can bring him back for good. Bonnie recoils, realizing it’s Silas in Jeremy’s skin. He tells her she needs him so she doesn’t lose control and burn herself up with her magic. He begs her to let him help her so she doesn’t hurt herself or anyone else. She tells him she doesn’t want to see Jeremy bad enough to help him.

Elijah has the white oak stake that Caroline gave him, but hands it over to Klaus. He tells him that he’ll be able to get past his Silas issue in time. Klaus threatens to take out Katherine if he doesn’t help him. Elijah says he should be a caring brother and give her a pass because Elijah loves her. Klaus reminds him he’s his only living brother and that he will spend his life making sure Elijah never knows happiness. Elijah tells Klaus that he leads a hollow little life.

Caroline sits on the sidelines at prom and when Matt comes by she begs him for a dance. He finally caves and takes her to the dance floor. She tells him she knows that being good won’t be easy, but she wants to try. She tells him he’s everything that she wants to be in a human. He tells her he’s just a busboy and he isn’t out saving the world. She tells him he’s beautifully human.

Caroline finds Damon who tells her he’s taking a breather on trying to rescue Elena. She tells him prom sucks and this wasn’t how she wanted to remember the night. He hands her his flask and she swigs and tells him she’ll see him at the after party.

Bonnie tells Damon and Stefan about Silas while Elena eavesdrops. She tells Rebekah how horrible it would be if her brother came back to life and bugged her nonstop about turning back on her humanity. The brothers and Matt debate whether Bonnie is safer at the prom or out of there.

April announces the prom couple and it’s announced – Bonnie and Matt are queen and king. Elena tells Rebekah the best way to remove the Silas threat is to kill his witch. Rebekah says she can’t kill Bonnie because she’s supposed to be human. Elena tells her that’s okay – she can take care of it and walks away with murder on her mind…

Matt tries to revive April as Rebekah comes in – he asks Rebekah to feed her blood to heal her. She tells him she can’t help because Elijah told her she couldn’t use her vampiric powers. Matt pleads with her to be good and help April. Rebekah is torn.
Stefan and Damon find each other and pull out the daggers they were stabbed with and share their discovery of the attacks. Bonnie runs through the parking lot and Silas/Jeremy pursues her. He tells her that her magic is taking over and she needs his help to control it. She is freaking out and all of the car alarms are going off. She screams for him to get out of her heads and he’s gone.

Then suddenly Elena attacks from behind, grabbing Bonnie and biting deeply into her neck. But the blood seems to be affecting Elena terribly. She collapses. Bonnie uses her magic to take her down and break her limbs. Stefan runs up and begs her to stop – he says the magic wants her to destroy Elena. As she’s about to die, Elena begs her to stop and Bonnie relents. She takes off and Elena collapses into Damon’s arms.

Matt thanks Rebekah for saving April. He promises her that he won’t tell anyone she used her powers. He tells her she might make a good human after all. He takes April home. Klaus comes in and mocks Rebekah’s choice. He tells her the human facts of life are that you have to watch people die and wonder why and what you could have done to stop it. She asks if he’s going to tell Elijah and he tells her that it really doesn’t matter anymore. She wonders what he’s up to.

Elijah gives Rebekah the cure – except Rebekah is with Klaus. Uh-oh. Rebekah calls Elijah and he realizes he’s been tricked by his brother and Silas. She tells him not to take his eyes off the cure and he tells her it’s too late for that. She’s in tears.

Tyler and Caroline are dancing when he tells her he has to go soon. He says he has to be gone before people show up for the after party because no one can see him. She kisses him and thanks him for the best prom ever. He leaves her there and heads out. Klaus is waiting for him on the porch and asks Tyler if it was worth it to give her the night of her dreams. He tells him he can have a five second head start in respect of Caroline’s feelings. He starts counting and Tyler is gone in a flash.

Damon tells Stefan that Elena was scared she was going to die. He reminds Stefan that fear is a human emotion. They agree it’s a good sign and lock her in their dungeon. Stefan asks Damon how Silas got inside his mind and he tells him he talked about his hair so he knew it was Stefan. He doesn’t want his brother to know that

Klaus finds a letter in his house from Katherine. She tells him there’s a witch named Jane in New Orleans who’s plotting against him. She tells him that what the witch has in store for him will make his troubles with Silas seem like a non-issue. She signs off on the letter “Love and Hate, Katerina.”

Bonnie goes looking for Silas and finds him in his true form. She asks why he’s hiding in the shadows and he tells her that his true love cursed him to be so hideous no one else could ever love him. He tells her he just wants to die and she agrees that she wants him to. She asks to see his face and he steps out of the shadows and it is truly awful. She can barely look at him!

The END!
