Tom Cruise Drops Tabloid "Suri Abandoned" Lawsuit After Depositions Damage Image

After realizing that his public image is taking a massive hit with all these depositions, Tom Cruise has dropped his $50 million tabloid lawsuit against Life & Style for alleging that he abandoned Suri Cruise after his divorce.

I’m guessing he was advised to file the lawsuit by his brilliant [not] lawyers, since Scientology’s method always seems to be attack first and think later. He even released a statement saying, “The assertion that I ‘abandoned’ Suri after my divorce is patently false. I have in no way cut Suri out of my life — whether physically, emotionally, financially or otherwise.”

Unfortunately, taking the case to court caused Tom a lot more discomfort than if he had just left it alone. He was prodded into revealing details about his actual relationship with his daughter, and intimate details regarding his divorce to Katie Holmes. It turned out that Tom actually hadn’t seen his daughter for almost three months after the divorce, and in fact, he’s only seen her a handful of times since then. He claims that he never ‘abandoned’ Suri, but his actions certainly say otherwise.

Of course, that’s not even counting the awkward deposition transcripts that have leaked regarding his affiliation with Scientology. In the long run, Tom realized that he made a mistake in filing this lawsuit and he was probably ill-advised in the first place. By filing the lawsuit, he just ended up opening himself up to a lot more speculation into his private life, which is the last thing his public image needs right now.

The motion to dismiss the suit was filed on Friday, agreed between Tom and Bauer Media, Life & Style’s parent company.

What do you guys think of the dismissal? Do you think Tom made the right choice in backing down, realizing that he wasn’t winning and only making things worse for himself? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.
